hi guys,

i have BFG EX-1200 which is rated at 1200w, under 100% CPU & GPU (prime95 & furmark) my system pull 1175watt out off the wall (according to killawatt) (all dvd and hdd is idle)

so do you guys think i need to added another PSU? or i just ignore it since in real world it is really hard to have 100% both CPU & GPU

thx

What are your system specs? I suspect that 1200W is plenty for your PC.

mobo - classified 759
CPU - W3520 @ 1.3125v vdroop controll off
RAM - 12GB @ 1.73v (6 stick)
NB - x58 @ 1.12v
GPU - 2x 4870x2 @ stock setting
Sound - Auzen HomeTheather HD
Raid - Adaptec 5805
HDD - 4x Intel SSD - 4x Seagate SAS cheetah 15k.6
DVD - 2x SATAs, 2x PATAs
Cooling - 10x 120mm Fans, 1x Pump

thx

btw on idle its pull around 470w | under CPU 100% load its pull 650w

I concur with Zero82z. Those Kill-A-Watts are inaccurate.

so, how do we calculate the total usage or what brand of kill-a-watt do you recommend

thx

I see similar pull from the wall on my kill-a-watt when fully loaded with Prime95 and Furmark and my Antec Quattro 1000w doesn't seem to have any problem with that.

Keep in mind that the PSU is rated based on it's output not it's consumption from the wall. Assuming 80% efficiency you would be pulling about 1500w from the wall if your PSU was actually putting out 1200w.

i see now what you are saying, i totally forgot that 1200w rated is output

thx
