Should I buy UT3?

I'm looking for a twitch shooter, and I loved UT2k4. I see that UT3 is real cheap now, but I keep hearing how all servers are empty. Is this true? Because if there is literally only 1 server with under 10 players, forget it. Anyone other recommendations for a game? How's Q4? Are these games un popular now?

ut3 is horrible. i like q4 for single player. never really got into the mulitplayer aspect of it. expect for the occasional lan in which it is fun. i have been a big fan of tf2 for the past 6 months or so. to me it never gets boring, especially if you find some good servers.

These games are priced right
Q4 $7.99
UT3 $14.99
Free Shipping. Q4 is a decent value at $8. Many will probably say $15 is too much for UT3. Servers are low globally but you still can find a match here and there. I mean you get what you pay for.

ut3 isn't that bad, but comparatively speaking they could have done more when grading against games like COD4. It's pretty much the same UT thats been around for a long time but with next gen graphics. I have ut3 and COD4 and I play COD4 more since it has more depth besides just round after round of team deathmatches. But considering it's price I think ut3 is worth the $15-$20.

Irrespective of whether it people think UT3 is good or not (I personally think its a shitfest), the fact is no one plays it online so its not worth bothering with.

Take a look at www.game-monitor.com if you want confirmation of that.

Epic fucked up UT3 by packaging it with a shitty menu system, gimped server browser, and hardly any maps. Although the gameplay mechanics are well done, at this point there's little reason to buy it considering how few people are actually still playing it.

Only if you want to expand your UT collection / Play the single player campaign.

Practically zero online presence.

It is pretty though.

you get a couple servers with some people, the other day i went on and i saw 1 server that had 14 people in, most all the game types are empty, not worth it really.

ut3 is too easy. plus there's no auto-ai bot exp hardness like in ut2 (2004). some maps are cool, but it's basically the same game with better graphics.

torlan is fun. there are some good custom maps too. if you have the spare change go to d2d and download it it's like $20.

then go to the official forums and dl the new maps. i prefer warfare only. there's a totally gay new device called a orb which is like a waypoint to the different nodes. crap turn it off in options.

plus there's bezerk speed and hiper fire.

some of the new vehicles are cool. i like it

Why did you uninstall in the first place? With that much storage space what's 8gb?

well, i mean I had it installed 3 years ago when I lasted played. I guess I should try it out. I wonder if there's issues running on 64bit.

It seems like Epic completely gave up and forgot about UT3. Its too bad that it hasn't done well.. I sometimes enjoy a nice TDM or vehicle CTF.

Download the demo and play that out. It has two maps and most of the weapons available. Personally that's plenty for me. I much prefer UT2004 with the Ballistic Weapons mods.

They fucked up the jumping in UT3 as well. Double-jumping was about the same as the normal jump, and I found myself being unable to get up the smallest jumps without having to double-jump, and most of the time even that wasn't enough.

COD4 and UT3

Don't understand all the hate towards UT3. It looks and plays incredible. Jaded people round here:rolleyes:

i have ut3. In fact the icon is right next to icon for ut2004 which came with my preorder of ut3 (but i already had the editors choice edition anyway).

I usually play ut2004 over ut3 because there are actually people online. I love ut3 but I can barely find more than 2 servers with people and those 2 are usuall full. the rest have maybe 6 people on them, and unreal is not fun with just 8 people on a server.

For a single player game experience UT3 is not an insult as a standalone. However, when you come from the roots of a beloved franchise and a strong title like UT2K, to follow that lineage with this is a massive letdown. Furthermore, most people were looking forward to the multiplayer which is more desolate than a ghost town. I can concede and admit that from time to time I still fire UT3 up and boink around for 20 minutes but that's about all I can handle playing against bots.

The people telling you that it's much better than the bad reputation are people who also got ripped off like me, and need to make themselves feel better about it. The game sucks.

It would be worth playing if the online servers actually had any players. Ive seen the server lists. usually all but 2 are empty.

I played UT2K. It was good fun. I liked Quake 3 better. That is probably why I like UT2003 so much and possibly why I like UT3 as well. The weapons look and feel great. The environments are spectacular. I'm huge on quality over quantity.

Please elaborate as to why it is such a massive let down. Just curious. I will admit I think they messed up the onslaught mode by throwing in that ball carrier mechanic. Also, please don't mention the menus, they suffice imo. I want to know how the actual gameplay is a letdown, cool?

but the single player part of the game isnt really single player. its basically a multi-player tutorial. I just played through Unreal 1 and 2 a few months ago and those were some oldies but goodies.

I got it from gogamer.com for like 12.00 but Im having a heck of a time tweaking it.
The game is really hard to see ESPECIALLY if youre color blind like I am. I have no idea what colors theyre using so Im guessing greens, blues and light reds cause of course those are the colors I cant see ...

No, the gameplay is horrible compared to UT2004. I bought mine for PC and sold it.

I paid $30 for it earlier this year. When I want a twitch-finger rush i go and play UT3. I always seem to get a good team deathmatch server with at least 10-14 ppl everytime I play. Its very arcadey and very fast paced, I feel its a good fix if played sparingly. After BF2 I stop playing SP in most FPS and usually judge a game based on its MP. UT3 MP is fun in my opinion but its just not something you would play everyday bcuz it will wind up getting stale. Now I'm just waiting to receive COD:WaW from Newegg. That game has much more substance than UT3. But for $15 its definitely worth the price of admission. Just be warned that its only good for that occasional adrenaline rush.

Actually Epic has been working on fixing UT3 and they have most of the things people griped about fixed. The lack of maps was fixed by the "Make something unreal" contest which generated hundreds of maps, mutators, custom vehicles, skins, etc.

Epic dropped the ball on launch and they are hurting bad from it no doubt, it is likely that this will be the last UT game and GOW will take over as their product showcase game. Remember, epic isn't in it to make games, they make a gaming engine that they sell to others, the UT games were a showcase of what the engine could do.

Sorry for going OT.... but what is wrong with FC2? I am considering purchasing it.

Do a search here on the forums. Alot of people are just dissapointed in it and annoyed with some of the stupid concepts of the game.

I personally quit playing it after the second time i had to drive across the map through half a dozen respawning checkpoints just to realize i had to do it all over again. Somethings wrong when the actual mission takes 5 minutes and 6 or 7 kills yet getting there and back takes 45 minutes and 20 or 30 kills. Grind MMO style quests in a FPS = FAIL.

While I don't believe that UT3 deserves all the hate it receives, it certainly was (and still is) a disappointment. However, It has fairly solid DM gameplay and can be fun for the occasional match. I'm glad I didn't buy it when it was full price, but for what I paid for it I'm happy with it.

Maybe that "expansion" Epic is working on will polish the game up a bit. I just hope they don't charge for it, because if they do it better make some significant additions (similar to what happened between UT 2003 and 2004, at least) to the game or they aren't seeing any of my money. I'm hoping it's just a really big free bonus pack.

I didn't read any of the thread, but OP, I'll sell you my copy of UT3 for $10 shipped :)

Buy Cod4, or Fallout3, or deadspace.. srsly.. no UT3

There is supposed to be an Expansion pack to be released in time for X-mas... Maybe that will have the necessary fixes...

Its pretty sad to look and see that MOH allied assault still has more people playing it than UT3
