Should I be worried?

My 1000w Coolermaster psu has started making clicking sounds whether the pc is turned on or not. This just started a couple of days ago. It's not very loud but do you think something might be getting ready to blow up?

Doesn't sound so good... make sure nothing is catching in the fan or make use of the 5yr warranty!

how does it sound exactly? (hard question).you should be able to tell if its the fan causing the sound. mine cooler master had this issue too when i put it upside down. its the fan spinning and touching some other parts in it. just knock it.

It's not the coil whine? Do you experiencing changes in stabilty when using computer?

if its under warranty, you should RMA immediately. Of all the components in a computer, you dont wanna mess with the power supply.

but dont worry about it. its only a pc. today is father's day. enjoy it. and dont sweat the small stuff.

RTF op's message, guys. He's saying that the PSU makes clicking noises whether the PC is turned on or not (standby). That means that it's not the fan catching on something but something on the PSU's PCB. I'd definitely vote for making use of the warranty at this point too. Perhaps try to replicate the issue with the PSU disconnected from the system.

My 600w coolermaster used to do the same thing. I thought it was dying.. It was actually the fan dying. I took out the horriblenoisyannoyingbadairlfow fan and put in a nice zalman one. Problem solved!

Swapping out the fan will void the warranty, though :)

it doesnt matter anyways. If its making the noise when the computer is off, you can eliminate the fan since it doesnt spin when the system is off.
