Should I be mad?

The 9800 does not suck. It was and still is a good card, but there is stuff much faster out there.

You can play Battlefield2 on your 9800, I do, and it's not too bad. Some detail has to be turned down, but, still very playable.

Don't be mad.
Look there are two high up members of the 939 Alliance who use the 9800. Me and the quoted poster. It is a good card.. It plays everything I need at high settings with decent FPS.

LOL at Brent and Darkhorse

i bought the dang card with my dell biz account. and its getting shipped to me so he has to come through me to get it.
Step 1: Withhold sex
Step 2: He'll cave
Step 3: Demand a 6800GT instead
Step 4: He'll agree
Step 5 Have hot make up sex to "thank him"
Step 6 Put the 9800 up for sale

BTW I like to add that my GF didn't let me build her rig and she got ripped off on it (s754 system with a 64bit GF4 MX, system didn't come with a HD and it was around $700), she knows better now. ;)

So I'm glad to see that you're letting your BF do the build although I do think the both of you should have sat down and gone over everything before ordering the parts and all (mine atleast consulted me about it).

well it was his idea. he hates coming to my house having to game on my emachines with a 17" CRT. i told him it was his baby and i was just going to raise it so he taught me all about watercooled rigs and i left it up to him but now its down to the wire and he is building his at the same time and i am jealous.

well then stop complaining

either take control of the situation, or don't

if you say you have him to build it for you and you don't tell him how you want it, then you have no place to complain

that's just my opinion

Brent laying down the law errrrrrr......JUSTICE!!!!

Should I be mad because he failed to advise me on getting the upgrade while he upgraded himself?

I would be...

But what you should do is tell him to make rig the same as his.

My 9700 pro plays BF2 just fine. 1024X768(?) is no problem with medium to high settings. The 9800 pro is almost exactly the same but just clocked higher.

Just cut him off for a while and demand some 7800GTX SLI goodness.
well Dell has it on backorder and it would just crush his little world if i told him that.

hehehehehehe

quality stuff when you have to get someone else's opinion to decide which emotion to apply.

Here's a wild idea.

#1.Think about the situation.
#2.Decide
#3.Stop attention whoring
#4.Profit

i actually was wanting to know would i have problems with the 9800 and BF2. i got the question answered for the most part so you can stop bitching at me.

7800GTX and e-Machines should not be in the same thread.

If you were my GF you would be on the curb. You asked to re-use your 9800 and he complied. You are now mad because he didn't try and change your mind to something better (i.e. tried to make you feel like you were in control of what you wanted). Now you are bitching because he didn't try to let you know you were being stupid?

My wife tries to pull this same shit and I don't tolerate it. Any time she pulls the "i'm a strong independant woman and I dont need your help" attitude, I just do what ever she wants (good or bad) and then she can suffer with the consequences. Did you even ask your BF for his oppinion or did you tell him what to do?

*sigh*

i told him to do what was best. i have let him buy all the parts and he just had my credit card. now its down to the end and im kinda wishing i didnt give him that much power over the situation because i got something i really dont want now. but he was nice enough to build it so im gonna keep it and build my own rig.

well at this point i have spent all the money for an AGP system. im debating a new mobo but i only paid 80 bucks for the one i got.

So you spent all your money...and kept the 9800. Sounds like he didnt want to break you any more than you are already. That 7800 is not a cheap card, you can wait about 4 months and it will be more affordable, and replacing the mobo won't be a big deal with the money saved in it's lower cost.

thats what pisses me off bout the whole thing. i bought the 7800 FOR HIM!!! $500.53

i got dough so money was not an issue.

its cool. imma just build my own rig in a few months.

Interesting topic I must admit hehe. You know what you can do though... Just wait for the R520 to come out (which should be faster than the 7800GTX and if not, someone's head over at ATi is already on a platter). It is suppose to be the last flagship model to support AGP and you can have a "better" card than your BF ;)

at this point im pretty stuck with the thing cause all he needs to do is install the water block and i will get that from frozen in a few days. as much as he knows that i REQUIRE the lastest geatest in electronics, he stiffed me on this one. normally i would have done my research before hand but i am too busy with school and two jobs.

since i started coming in the forums i am learning a lot and i wish i had done this back in Feb when he told me too and i wouldnt be unhappy with the whole deal right now.

when i bought the 9800, it was the best AGP card out for a reasonable price because i know i was getting a new rig. he bitched about me having a better card than him then. i think he has a 9600 AGP.

well mods you can dead this thread.

lesson learned. build my own rig.

I expected atleast one person to do it, and since no one did, I had to fill the gap.

So... You're a female gamer who knows enough to build her own rig and is nice enough to buy your boyfriend a 7800GTX?

I thought these didn't exist? :D

Anywho, my advice, not that you need it anymore, is to wait a few months and then upgrade the mobo and vid card. Once the 7800GTX drops in price, it'll be a worthwhile purchase...

Or you could wait for the 7800 Ultra to come out, and buy two and a SLI mobo, and embarass your BF again!

LOL this thread just made my day :D anyways, my wife just bought me a new rig as well, but i told her it was going to cost $1500.00 but it turned out to be $2500+ :D

now she's mad because she wont be getting her Gucci bag (cost an arm i think)

but i promised her my next paycheck w/ bonus goes to her purse or bag, whatever you call it :D

to OP, i wouldnt really worry about the 9800pro since this card is still can play any current games that's out right now even BF2 w/ med settings @ 1024x768 res.

just be happy that you have a cute and gentlemanlike BF :)

i wish i had bought the card for myself too. but dell jacked up the price.

give me a target bag. gucci cost too much

hell no.

he's too cute and all gentlemanlike.

"gentlemanlike" - so what is that, almost like a one, but not quite?

I guess so. A real gentleman would gladly give you the 7800 instead...

i have absolutly no problems playing Battlefield 2 with my 9700 pro, i see no reason youll have a problem with a 9800

Did you give him a spending limit? I know ive had to cut corners building systems for my GF's family and I sucks to do it but its the only way to get it done with what is given. Maybe he figured you didn't care. Anyway I say the best way to show him your [H]ard is to get a card better than his when one comes out (R520 maybe?).
