Should [H] start testing with a Quad HD display?

What makes you so certain? Next-gen consoles are based on AMD hardware, and AMD cards that you can get for under $100 (7750) support 4k resolution.
1) No one owns a 4K TV, especially in the console demographic.

2) The lower end 4K resolution is more than double the pixels of a 1080p TV, and would require an incredibly powerful setup to run at 30fps which is what a lot of console games target. There is no way that the consoles will be able to deliver this level of power and still be affordable and fit into the power/heat requirements needed. It's just not feasible.

They might be able to do 4K upscaling or something but the games won't render at that.

Biggest issue for me is latency. This industry never seem to learn. I would play something more than MAME/Gens if TV wasn't laggy as hell. It's a simple thing that's only going to get worse imho :(

Since content is going to be a major issue, they're going to process image to the max. And that industry doesn't care about latency at all.

1080p has been out for years and broadcasters haven't even adopted that. So I wouldn't hold your breath for 4k.

Okay, they're rather expensive now, but they'll reduce in price dramatically very quickly. And theory says that with the higher PPI you need less AA etc.

And if you're investing in a multi-GPU setup now, wouldn't it be worth knowing that it actually worked with a QHD display?

They test based on hardware people actually can buy within reason, and games that people are actually playing.

IMO, The time will come when H uses 4k monitors. Now is not that time - the tech is too expensive and hard to obtain right now.

Well they at least broadcast in 1080i (even though my tv says p) here in canada (shaw)

Oh yeah 1080i is widely used. I'm mean strict 1080p.. I've only seen that on pay per view channels so far. Which for many services here in the states, FiOS, direct TV is actually IPTV streamed over the internet.

Easy, PM VEGA

"Yo Vega, this is Kyle, we decided to make you honorary staff, no money in it but you do get a custom title, hey, whip us up a 4K GPU shootout will you?"

problem solved

As soon as i can afford a quad hd screen which is atleast 32inch+ for my pc, ill buy one, or 3 of em.

And what TV does, isnt really important. Its the porn industry who decides which format will make it and which one will not :p
