I was doing some maintenance on my katana (sword) and had some inspiration with the stuff I polish it with...



The stuff leaves an oil residue though in order to keep your blade from rusting while sheathed, so I had to clean it off with some alcohol. The results were great though.

I was able to polish out all the machine marks/grooves out of the finish without resorting to 1500/200 grit sandpaper...
 
Took me a second to realise that was the camera I was seeing in the base...
 
with my old 2.6@3.3 I noticed the temp drop 1C over the previous readings...

only change done was that, reapplied some new as5 using the grain method as I did before.

I would think that there is now an even finer interface b/w cpu and heatsink base.
 
You have a crappy camera...

ANYways. Did you get the katana on eBay? Or did you go the honorable way? (Get it in Japan? Like I did when I was on vacation)
 
How does who gets your cash for a cheap decorator's piece make it more honorable?

Although it makes for better bragging rights if you actually payed five figures for a real one.

Check the temps again later after the AS5 has a chance to set, it'll drop some more.
 
It was a training blade that my sensei got for me, around $1K in price. Has a few dings in it here and there for when we trained for real. It's used for "test cutting" I can cut through the straw mats, but struggle on "goza" which simulates bone. I'm kinda qualified to use it being a black belt...

WTF is honourable way?? Last time I was there was 5 years ago... got myself another honourable watch lol I'll be going there in December to vacation...

But its beside the point.

Temps I'm talking about is after the ~200 hour settle point for as5.

The stuff I use to polish is called "Metal Glo". I get it at a local knife shop for around $10 Cdn a pop.

And I resized the pic... jeez... my camera's not that bad of a 3.2...
 
It shouldnt technically change the temps for a positive at all, its just polish. If it were lapped then it might, but polishing adds a layer of stuff to the heatsink which could restrict heat, but thats just my way of thinking. Looks nice but :)

That would be by removing from a dead Japanese Officer, who 2 secs earlier was the owner. War. That's how my Grandfather got to own his ;)

I was on vacation in Vietnam about 18 months ago and you could buy vietnam era US ARMY, Marine, Navy Dog Tags. Even saw some dried human ears, human skulls, machetes and several what appeared to be live 50. Cal live rounds. One shop had pieces of a US Aircraft, Saw several Helmets, Heli and Aircraft. Uniforms. I nearly bought a few small things but had a change of heart.

Very poor country and they sell just about anything they can.
