come on ATI, release a driver to stop our shimmering too!
provoko said:I thought the AI drivers fixed shimmering with ATI cards.
An Abit motherboard. That has the new intel socket T on it or called LGA775 also. his uses the 915 chipset, there is also a 925 chipset out there for LGA 775. Look in his sig tooaZn_plyR said:what the heck is an AG8?? i wanna knoe!!!

I have a 9800xt with latest Catalyst drivers, no artifacts in any game.
MUCH more common on Nvidia. Infact most people with both are saying ATI's problem is simply their opts. Nvidias is just...screwy. With AA on in the certain area of the screen its actually not AA'd. Its either a Nvidia bug or opt.tranCendenZ said:its a weird shimmering artifact that not everyone gets on both ati and nv cards. if you dont notice it dont worry about it basically![]()
gordon151 said:I dunno why tranCendenZ keeps trying to insist ati users are having a major problem with shimmering when they arent. Like some kind of justification for his issues or something.

Farcry everything pimped out
shimmering. When you start moving these little areas I drew out...start moving vibrating
Sc0rched @ Hardocp ysing ATI 9800XT said:This is somewhat related I assume... I notice "shimmering" such as that in the screenshot of farcry, little white dotted lines where skins seperate that I have noticed mainly in CS and CS:S. However, I am NOT using an nVidia card. I am using a 9800XT with stock clocks.
hordaktheman @ Hardocp using ATI 9500PRO said:For those interested, I get that same *exact* shimmering effect in bf1942 on my 9500pro if, and only if, I have AF enabled.
Arioch @ nvnews using ATI x800xtpe said:This problem also exists to some extent on a X800 card as I had a X800XT PE for two months. The high quality setting with optimizations off seem to eliminate most of this problem on my 6800 Ultra.
Malificar @ nvnews using ATI x800pro said:I had a X800Pro. ATi's optimized AF is more offensive in this department than nVidia's set to high quality no optimizations.
Brent_Justice @ HardOCP using ATI x700xT said:Ok, I have read this entire thread now, as well as the one at NVNews, next up I will read the one at B3D.
I'd like to point out that I did mention this "shimmering" problem which I noticed on the X700XT actually, here: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjY2LDY= Under the Image Quality section.
This definitely warrants investigation on both NVIDIA and ATI hardware
I will be looking specifically for this problem on future reviews, and point it out if its very noticeable.
Also regarding the dots/lines that are appearing at the seams of textures or other parts of the texture I have noticed this one too, a lot, I first pointed it out here: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjY0LDEw and then here: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjY2LDQ= in DOOM 3, FarCry and City of Heroes. I have also been playing CS:S a lot lately and have noticed it badly in that game. ATI is aware of and looking into that dot/line problem.
gordon151 said:Oh come the heck on. Sc0rched isnt even talking about shimmering, hordaktheman admitted it was a settings error, and malficar and arioch are talking from earlier this year about problems which were fixed (which I have a feeling about which specific games they saw this in). Only thing which might be an issue is what brent saw and thats specific to the game and Netrat33 (which I dunno what the hecks up with his setup, he has way too many problems).
gordon151 said:I call it time to put some better cooling on his 9800XT.
Brent_Justice said:ATI is aware of and looking into that dot/line problem.
Ooh, i knwo what ill call it!tranCendenZ said:so what would you like to call the white dotted line artifact that sc0rched is experiencing on his ATI card if you don't want to call it shimmering?
I call it time to put some better cooling on his 9800XT. Though I'm not entirely sure what it is, but it really does not sound like shimmering.
ATI is aware of and looking into that dot/line problem.
tranCendenZ said:brent and netrat also got the white dotted lines on their ATI cards, so i don't think its just cooling
in fact brent stated:
so the real question is, since both cards appear to have shimmering-type artifacts on certain setups and games, why are you railing so hard that ATI doesn't?
Sc0rched said:I have tested, and it is not the cooling. I have even tried putting an industrial fan to check, which lowers the card to 56C, and it only artifacts on corners, or where the skin changes. Turning on AA helps, but doesnt fix it even when maxed. Ill post a screenshot in a minute of what it looks like.
I hope they fix it, it annoys me.My last 9800XT didn't do this, to bad it died.
Sc0rched said:Now, This might not be the shimmering problem, but my original comment I made was based off a Farcry screenshot in an earlier thread showing it, and the description of the problem. I have made the images smaller to fit the forum better, and not take up as much bandwith The real dots are actually bigger in the game, I have circled them with red and made arrows. The dots move around based on my agle I am looking at it.

Well I have a friend who has x800xt and the shimmering level is not even close when compared to Nvidia cards. Like I said all games have to have low level shimmering, it is natural to have it on monitors.. But the level of shimmering on Nvidia cards is soo high that some games are just not playable. Soo before you post your foolish post again I suggest you read more about the nature of shimmering...BioVader said:Well I have a x800xtpe and refuse to play BF: DC because of shimmering.. At least it must be what you guys are talking about.. I've had the problem sine the last BF: DC patch.. What I see is areas of the hud and radar for etc. flash all over the screen. But it's basically numbers that I see flashing all ove.. drives me nuts.. I also seen this with Q3 but it's not as bad.. Don't have a problem with CS:S

gordon151 said:Ok, last reply here. Brent saw what looks like artifacts. That is not shimmering. I'm sure you're quite aware of what shimmering is (at least I hope) and I even remember the thread about that review where people asked brent if he backed down the clocks to get rid of the artifacts. I dunno what netrats problem is, but I does seem to be more specific to himself (might be issues with the drivers and his setup, I dunno). Ok, we done here? I am.
