My rig finally bit the dust. Powered up fine all lights and fans, keyboard/mouse lights, HDDs spin up, etc.

No beeps. No Post. No video signal.

After one or two restarts the keyboard/mouse cease to light-up (they work fine with my laptop). So I check the USB ports with other gear. The USB ports are pushing power but not enough to light up the keyboard or mouse (charging my Nexus One, Zune and iPod works.

I took out the RAM, no beeps still.
Put each stick of RAM in the A, B, C, D slots. I would get three beeps with the RAM in Dual Channel slots (blue on my Mobo but set to run in the black slots as Intel suggests). Still no booting/posting with either stick in any slot.

I tried each video card on its own, no change.
Disconnected each HDD, no change (heading out to get one of those HDD docks to pull my data).

Mobo/CPU fried (perhaps the little CMOS battery)? CPU sink is cool to the touch.

Ram fried? Never booted a functioning rig with no ram but I would assume that you would still get a video signal of sorts?

I've got zero other gear to swap out and test with

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

EDIT: could be time to just rebuild/upgrade to a DX11 rig =D / =( rather not spend the cash tho

check your mobo for any defects, burn marks, exploded caps, sniff about.

without having any other equipment to swap it out with its pretty tough.

pull everything from the board except the cpu/hsf. power it on and see if it makes any system beeps.

i wont be around until tomorrow night, but that should get you started.

Unfortunately, you're gonna need to either find a way to start testing the GPU, RAM, PSU, etc via swapping parts or in another PC or just write off the entire system.

I know, Danny :( Outside of taking it to a repair shop (which I would hate to do out of pride =D.

It's not a bad time to upgrade I guess! I could easily keep the dual 4870s a little longer and maybe do a stopgap (read on the cheap AMD PII rig, tho not sure about the AM3 roadmap with bulldozer on the way).

Who has good return policies ;)?

Hey, champ, only the RAM has a "limited lifetime" warranty. Everything else has about a year's worth of time, save for the hard drive, which can have up to five years (based on the particular brand and when it was purchased). Long story short is that you're aren't going to be able to return anything.

Thanks, guy (people still talk like that?), but I think you missed the deviant nature of my comment.

I wasn't referring to the items I already own...

Anyway, thanks for the input!

My sarcasm meter's defective today. Think you could return that for me?

Go to best buy, buy the parts you think may be damaged, swap out, isolate and eliminate, return extras to bestbuy for cash back no restocking fee.

And commit fraud in the process. Good job.

I just checked your sig and saw that you have two systems listed. Is the first system the one that's kaput?

If so, have you tried looking for a (used) P45/X48 motherboard?

And out of curiosity -- no jokes this time, promise -- how old is your PSU? Everything tells me that the motherboard is bad, but I want to confirm something else.
