Shenmue 3

Oh and if Dreamcast 2 ever happened that would be insane. Lol

Original Xbox was pretty much a Dreamcast 2.. It adopted a lot of their exclusives, copied their controller almost verbatim and was *-* that close to being backwards compatible with Dreamcast games.. Network problems with Dreamcast games kept that from happening.

Is this the first time a kickstarter was introduced on the main stage of an E3 event? That's a pretty awkward and shady move by Sony, that being said I can't wait to play Shenmue 3 in a few years.

I can see the reason behind it. Gauge interest to show potential investors that there is a real demand for a 14 year old game. Sony is probably funding a lot of it (they said they already are funding it on their stream) now that interest is shown.

It wasn't shady. Shenmue games were some of the most expensive to make... I think Shenmue 2 cost 47 million

They wanted to gauge the interest of the public, rightfully so, before committing massive funds to make the game a reality. I think it was a smart move and the gamers win.

Looks like the kickstarter campaign is over, now we wait 10 years :D

Heads up for everyone following this... Yu Suzuki is doing an AMA tomorrow. Time TBA... should be a good opportunity to get some info on what he is hoping to accomplish.

What I like about this is that I hope Yu's team is fired up by the response and puts in their best effort.

Maybe with all the hooplah over the Oculus pricing, this story got missed (or maybe I missed a thread about it).

http://www.pcgamer.com/shenmue-3-dev-explains-why-kickstarter-rewards-wont-go-to-paypal-backers/

Basically, the devs are now stating that the later backers ("Slacker Backers") will not be receiving the original kickstarter rewards, even though they were promised them when they would've backed the project. The devs used some dicey rationale to explain why they did this.

Personally, I think the devs just didn't want to put out the extra money needed to reward all the new backers.

I don't think that's entirely true. The Slacker Backer campaign features pretty much all the same rewards that the Kickstarter campaign originally started with (The game, T-Shirts, CD Soundtracks, Toy Capsules, etc.). However, unless I'm wrong, a few of the higher tiered options, that were listed as Kickstarter Exclusives, were never listed on the PayPal Backer page. For example, there's one where you can have your name and b-date on some a plaque, in a temple in one of the villages. The poll was to see if they should offer some of those reward tiers, and they decided against it... but I don't think that has changed the rewards that they offered the PayPal backers right from the get-go. In fact, you can see them right here:

PayPal Backer Tiers w/ Rewards

Some of these article make it sound like slacker backers backed certain tiers, and then they took the rewards away from those tiers. I'm pretty sure that's not the case.
