Sorry if there have been threads created like this in the past. I wasn't able to find any with the search feature. I thought that it might be a good idea to start a thread for good programs that a lot of people might not know about. I'm constantly trying out new stuff and I always like to hear about good software. So here's my recommendation to you all.

Slickrun get it here http://www.bayden.com/SlickRun/ In my opinion this should come bundled with the Windows operating system. I'm amazed that more people haven't heard of this program. Very rarely do I even need to navigate through folders to access a file. I can use slickrun to launch any program, directory, song, the control panel, etc. from slickrun. It floats wherever you want it to on your screen and can be hid in the tray. It is very easy to configure and there is also a support forum where people share various tricks to use. One example of what it can do.. I can type in "google meatballs" into slickrun. Then slickrun will open up my default browser, navigate to google, search for meatballs, and display the results all on it's own.

Okay..I suppose I wrote a little too much about slickrun. Please share the great programs that you've ran across but know most people probably don't know about. Please don't name off any commonly used programs though.

Net Stumbler

http://www.netstumbler.com/

very useful utility for seeing what kind of wireless access points are within range of your wifi adapter. it can break down lists based on channel, encryption, and other categories. great utility to have on hand in a wireless enabled network with multiple access points.
my main reason for using it is a feature that gives an audible tone so that the stronger the signal it gets to a particular access point, the higher the pitch sound is heard through the speakers. this alone provides great resolution for investigating wifi "dead zones".

Ccleaner http://www.ccleaner.com It dumps all of your temp files nicely. It even gets temporary internet subfolders and such. The only drawback is that it removes file only for the logged on account under windows xp.

VLC Media Player, plays most types of files, better than DivX or Windows Media Player, free also. Just a personal preference, I'm sure some of you have heard of this program too :)
VLC Media Player is really great. Anytime my media players can't play a video, or can but don't play the sound (or have some other problem), I just open it up in VLC Media Player and it always works.

Rainlendar:

I know that some people on this board uses it, but not sure if many know of it. It's just a calendar that sits on the desktop, but you can add reminders and notes and such. Highly useful.

This program is the only reason why my wife and friends don't think I'm an ass for forgetting birthdays, anniversarys, or other important dates... I know that other programs can do the same thing as this, but this one is so simple and so conspicuous without getting in the way that I've come to realy quite heavily on it.

PictureCooler - A surprisingly effective denoiser for photos. IMHO it works as well or better than Photoshop's denoiser.

A couple of shell extensions I've found useful:

EXIF InfoTip - Takes the exif info (shutter speed, ISO, aperture, time and date, etc.) of a photo and puts it into a conventient tooltip when you hover over the file. Useful if you're into photography.

ISO Recorder Power Toy - Right-click an ISO and burn. That's all. Quick, simple and free.

Hah, I just took a look at SlickRun... I wrote a program exactly like that a few years ago, just for my own use. Damn... should've released it then.
