hi guys,
I would like to set this system up with the following parts,
what is your take on this? I'm quite a noob so appreciate suggestions.

intel i3 Clarkdale
Asus P7H55 micro-ATX mb
Corsair XMS 2x4Gb
OCZ Vertex 2 60Gb
Gigabyte GTX 460 1Gb
Seagate Constellation 500Gb
Sony Optiarc CD/DVD burner
S06

I intend to use it for mild video editing, gaming, storage, and watching videos on a 24" LED screen.

Atx and Itx are completely different form factors - check the mobo form factor page at wiki to see the different dimensons.
 
I'd recommend waiting a few weeks...if you want an i3, just go SB and purchase a 2100 upon release. I'd also wait for the Intel SSD's. Frankly, they're not paying you enough to buy older tech in my opinion.

I'm waiting myself...patiently.

SB is Sandy Bridge. 2100 is a soon-to-be released CPU in the Sandy Bridge family. New ssd are supposed to launch this month, next gen ssd in particular.

Don't think so.

24" 1920x1080 (res I use) - always want to have more or go bigger in the future.

hopefully by end month or next, have a baby coming,

9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? etc.
Do I need a RAID for my SSD and HDD setup? Firewire not needed. Single output is fine with me at the moment though. Dont think will need 2 screen in the future.

10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? 32bit or 64bit?

A gigabyte H55N-USB3 would be a better mobo if you wanted a quad core i5. Zotac is better if you want to use a clarksdale i3/i5, and need the wifi unit internally.


I'd recommend against OCZ Vertex/Agility SSD, since OCZ has been doing a bit of shady underdealsing with their newer SSD being slower, due to different internal hardware, without changing model numbers of anything, then trying their hardest to block out all proof of this info from leaking out. Wait a wee bit, then get either a newer SSD from Crucial (C300/C400) or an Intel G3 (IMO). Otherwise, I'd get a 64GB C300 right now or a 80GB Intel G2.

HD = AMD Radeon
GTX/GTS = nVidia GeForce

No real difference, mostly preference and how much are you willing to spend.

Any decent vendors near you?

I'm thinking of getting some parts shipped from newegg or amazon. I've someone who is letting go of Intel G2 SSD 80Gb for SGD$150, so might grab that. And I'll get Gigabyte mobo perhaps.One question, if I intend to run GTS 450/460 on it, will 300W power supply be sufficient? Oh and with this setup, do I need to worry about temps or perhaps can you recommend me a good heat sink/fan?

I run a GTX460 768 OC'd in a silver SG06 with the 300W PSU as my main crunching machine (high load, 24/7 - PrimeGrid BOINC project). As long as you aren't using a 45nm quad, you should be fine.


If you are using a 45nm quad, disable HT and you still should be fine.

Here's a pic of my upcoming rebuild of Neutronium... as you can see SFX isn't an issue :D

Even if I wasn't going to watercool the proc, a Samuel17 would still fit under there.

My question is, the MSI video card shld be able to fit the casing right?
so forum mentioned that it needs 2 PCI slot?

Yes it will fit. Video card only requires ONE physical slot but occupies two slots of space.

The additional width for video cooler hangs over mini ITX motherboard.

I don't normally keep mny case "open." CPU temps load into the low 60C. CPU cooler is a Slim X3 from either ThermalRight or ThermalTake. main fan is a Gentle Typhoon GTAP15 running at 1100RPM :)

yes... it does :) Under the DVD driver mount, and above the 3.5" bracket, there is a 2.5" HDD/SDD mount!! :D

so there is no problem fixing a slim X3 on a LGA1155 CPU?
 
Very nice, I am looking to use the SG06 on my upcoming 2600k htpc build as well.

Can the front intake fan location on these cases accommodate an H50/H60?
 
yes. The internal case frame is the same as the SG05. SG06 gets a fancy front panel that's bumped out a bit to allow for airflow into the front 120mm fan.

1. SB 2100

7. 1 HDD(1-1.5Tb)

My concern is the height of the cooler and if the RAMs wil block them. My options are scythe shuriken rev B and big scythe shuriken. What do you guys think?

Well many people have been satisfied with the Sandy Bridge stock cooler in these mitx boards. That one won't have any clearance issues. The 2100 is a pretty low wattage CPU so it's heat probably isn't much of an issue.

Given the socket placement on that Zotac board (and most mitx 1155 boards) the big shuriken will not even come close to fitting. It will overlap the pcie slot. Even the shuriken rev. B apparently needs a little "bending" so that its heat pipes don't touch the back of the video card. With that little modification it apparently works. The question is whether you are comfortable bending the pipes on your CPU cooler?

I'm going to be trying a Prolimatech Samuel 17 in the Asus 1155 mitx board next week (on an i5 2400 CPU). Looks like it should fit based on reviews I've seen of it in similarly spaced 1156 boards. Will report in when I do.

appreciate it dude :) most prolly will do without any aftermarket CPU cooler. Going to get the rest of my parts tmrw :)
