SFII : Hyper Fighting is available for download now. 800 points for the full version, not too high. Get to downloading people! I know what I have waiting for me when I get home from work.

When I get back home from Vacation, I know what I am going to do to Relax!
Galaga, and SF!
Nice.

Yup, Hell froze over!
I got a chance to play for about 2 minutes before heading to work. I still HATE the 360's d-pad, but it's not as bad as I feared. For instance on my PC's Final Burn emulator I can't do a Zangief SPD to save my life. There's apparently something about the inputs on a PC pad (either as a d-pad or flight hat...I've tried both) that just can't take that kind of motion for some reason. In playing this one for 5 minutes, I managed to pull 3, and one off of a "tic" which is the key to that move.
I'm still hoping for a d-pad centric controller, but I figure I can learn to be somewhat adequate with this one. I think the main problem I have is that it's too far from the edge of the pad. My thumb can reach it, but then the shoulder buttons are a pain to reach. Here's hoping for PS2 layout with the d-pad on the outside.

For real :)
It'll be interesting to see if any of the younger kids really do well at this game. It's been 12 years for this one (and 16 overall) and I don't think there's anything I haven't seen 1000 times. I can imagine anyone picking this up and beating people that have played it for over a decade. This is likely to be fish in a barrel once I get used to that wacky d-pad.

yupi, can't wait to DL this and own some of those old farts :p j/k I played the crap out of that game back in the day, actually it was SFII.

I'm nearly 30 and I remember being one of those "high school kids" when the original was out. Now the tables have turned ;)
At one time I was actually really good (I was an even match for a guy who finished in the top 20 in the nation), so I hope a lot of the timing has come back to me. Years of playing Tekken and VF will likely give me the bad habit of not blocking low enough. After 6-7 years of staying in a high block 90% of the time, we'll now all have to get used to staying in a low block again.

The lag in this game is fucking horrible. And the lobby doesn't ping your opponent for you. Don't waste your $10.

How could they fuck this up? I mean, honestly...how much bandwith can a 16 year-old game require?

I never play fighting games online... because of lag.

SF3rd Strike had the same issues.

Besides, there is no arcade stick for the 360.

Yes there is.

Actually I'm *not* getting the lag that seems to be pestering people. I gave up on the ranked stuff and went to quater matches, where I was having a blast chatting and playing normally. I found ranked to be a total bitch to play. It just wasn't set up to be played continually.
I think the D-pad's a total POS, but actually I've found the analog stick to work quite well. I never thought I'd say that, but it's true. Zangief's SPD is the only thing that doesn't seem to work well with it (you've got to clear 6 of the 8 directions in a split second), but it works great for everyone else.
So far I'm pretty happy, although I still want a d-pad based gamepad. The analog stick is good enough for now, but I'd hate to think I'll have to stick with it.

I've had lag on one fight (and my opponent was like #6 on the rankins chart and from australia) other than that it's been fine. I've played 38 ranked matchs so far, although I've only had around 13-14 wins (I cannot get used to the D-pad on the 360 pad it's far too loose compared to the old snes pad:(). saying that though, I've never been *that* good at it anyway - but it's still fun ;)

Hopefully the lag spikes that some of us are getting will be fixed in time...I imagine that the XBLA servers are getting bombarded because of this game.

As stupid as it sounds, give the analog stick a try. I've even gotten the SPD down about 1/2 the time I try it. I know it seems like it wouldn't/shouldn't work well but it really does. When I was playing with the pad, I was 2-2 with my wins coming off of sheer "pin 'em down" offense only. Once I swapped to the stick, I've only lost 3 times out of about 30 quater bouts...and that was because they were honestly better for that game.

I just wanted to pop in and say that for 2D fighters on regular Xbox I definitely prefer the thumb stick - it's not too bad once you get used to it. On PS2 though you gotta use the dpad.

I personally still prefer a d-pad to an anlog stick for games like this, but I just can't get comfortable with the 360's d-pad placement. It's there as an afterthought for macros and quick-slots, but as a control tool I just can't deal with it.
If someone came up with a PS2 pad adapter for the 360, I'd be on it in a second.
For now the analog stick is still good enough. After a few hours, I'd forgotten that I wasn't using a normal d-pad.
I really don't want a joystick. I love one for a game like this, but I guess I'm a little to "wild" and I'd need something bolted down or attached to something immovable. It works great in the arcades when it's attached to a several hundred pound cabinet, but at home I end up slinging it all over the place :p

Well, after a little more play, I'm a little irked at some little stuff. Because of the splitsecond timing required for many things, I've notice that the little tiny lags in online play allow for the simplest things to be exploited. For instance Chun Li and Honda can button mash with impunity as it takes splitsecond timing to block a jump attack and counter with a special move before their mashing moves spring out.
Honda is a scary sight online because simply mashing the middle punch is really exploitive unless your connection is flawless. A better controller might help, but it's tough to say. Oh well...it's only $10.

I've played against 4 E. Honda players, 2 played decently and the other 2 just spammed 1 move repeatedly (Hundred hand slap and belly flop) which didn't give you any chance to counter

I know...it's horrible. I've played GOOD Honda players, but the spammers are TOUGH to stop. As of now, whenever I see someone choose Honda, I know I can rack up a loss 75% of the time. Normally I'd just block the belly flop and either SPD them (with Zangief) or do some sort of special move using the whole "counter hit" timing. With this version, the timing needed to do that is crazy. Lack of an effective controller factors in and the extra speed they added doesn't help either.
Pretty much the whole cast is fine, but Honda's and Chun Li's who mash are tough as hell just because of the exploitive timing with the online code. Any time you get hit with an jumping attack from them, expect to eat 40%, even if you're trying to block.

As many said, the game is fun when there's no lag. One slight lag and you're done in an instant. Didn't they delay the game because they're supposed to fix the lagginess?
And spammers, I hate them but with little patience they can be grounded.

I agree they can be beaten, it's just annoying that the concept works at all. If I see Honda, the only consistant answer for mashing I have is Vega...and then I'm just spamming the Izuna drop. Whenever I see Honda selected I have to choose Vega. When I see Chun Li - I stick to Honda (he can bear hug before her spam kick comes out). Those aren't even my better characters, but I'm forced to fight fire with fire.

I play Chun Li, I've played her since SNES, u might think I'm a spammer but I'm not. Actually I've never abused her mashing leg, I like her because she flies high, but when I play against honda or whoever who can spam or abuse that one "move" I have no regrets taking out mashing leg.

There's no shame in that move, I'm not implying that. It's just those players that just jump in with the short kick, spam kick...repeat. Unless you're an uppercut based character, that's a pain to stop...and it's not because of the game but actually the online play's netcode. I respect the hell out of Chun Li and Honda players, and yes - you should use their mash moves here and there. They're some of the few moves they have that do block damage. It's not really even the players fault for exploiting it either. I just think it's lousy that something that simple (and typically easy to stop) is so dominant.

This game is really hard! Way harder than I ever remember it!!

Perhaps I am just not playing it right...

I suck :(

LOL - no, the difficulty is jacked. Ever play Street Fighter Collection? The AI is the same way in that game. The AI has always cheated a little (ie. charge move characters doing moves instantly), but in these games it's just really smart. Yes, certain characters still have patterns, but the AI is good about not allowing simple jump-ins and whatnot. Characters like Balrog and Ken are still very simple, though. Once Ken gets below 1/2 of his life, he just keeps doing uppercuts, and Balrog just doesn't ever block.
If anyone recalls the "star" system on the SuperNES - the recent Street Fighter releases are essentially ALWAYS on 7 star mode. Try cranking the difficulty on this one all the way up and you'll notice that's it's not really much harder than the default.

I refuse to play fighting games against 1980's AI. It's frustrating beyond belief. I bought this game solely for it's online component... which, well... :(

OK I am new to this whole thing, I see that u can buy points. but how do u earn them? same was as the achiements? cuz I have 190 of them but when I log into live it says my current is 0?

They're actually different. What you have are achievements. Those are kind of like bragging rights and a repuation. There's talk that they'll eventually give you free Xbox Live Points for them, but that really hasn't come up lately...so don't hold your breath.
Xbox Live points are kind of like "tokens" that you have to pay money for. Those are the items that let you buy the Xbox Arcade games and whatnot.

Made a thread title change and linked to the frontpage guys.

Please keep the feedback coming. :)

What exactly took them so long to get this game released? They didnt add anyting in terms of content and the net code (which they delayed this to fix) isnt solid at all. Even the background around the screen looks like it took them a minute to create in paint.

I've been playing the game a little more and I while I like it, I'm still a little perplexed at the timing to some of the moves online. Masher moves (like those from Chun Li and Honda) are just given insane priority due to the netcode. Normally you should be able to block an incoming attack and either throw them or even execute a special move before their move comes out. In this version, that simply doesn't work all the time. I'm guessing it's still possible, but there's some crazy tiny window for it that makes it VERY difficult and inconsitant. As a result, spamming with a high % flying jab or short kick followed by a mash move is almost risk free. Only the "uppercut brothers" can consistantly neutralize that strategy. While this comes off whiny - the issue is that the game allows this to be stopped VERY easily with every character, however the netcode and what I guess I should call "client prediction" makes that a LOT more difficult than it should be.
To test it out, I hopped into matches with people with crazy winning records (and obvious skill based on my educated opinion) and unless they were using Ryu/Ken/Sagat...I found my Honda mash-fest to be all too effective in nearly every match.
I'd like to think this game might get an eventual netcode patch update, but I wonder if it's really a priority for Capcom to fix a $10 game that people are going to buy anyway?

Capcom might do a netcode update just because of the fact that this is the fastest-selling XBLA title to date.

Achievements are earned for completing game-specific tasks, and are worth varying amounts of Gamerscore. Your Gamerscore on your Gamercard is the aggregated number you've earned from all of your achievements in all of your games. It's a ranking that shows others how active you've been in earning Achievements.

Gamerscore is totally different from MS Points, which are the "currency" of the Xbox Live Marketplace. MS Points can be purchased on the Marketplace if you have a credit card associated with your account, or you can purchase them in the stores on pre-paid cards that contain codes that you enter into the Marketplace to redeem the points.

MS Points are used to purchase content on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Not all content costs MS Points, there is a lot thats free, but things like Full Arcade games cost money, and for that you use MS Points. MS Points allow prices to be consistent on the Marketplace around the world, so that an Arcade Game that costs 800 Points in the U.S. also costs 800 Points in Japan, regardless of what you paid for the points in your local currency.

I am easily the worst player of SF EVER. I'm getting owned left and right. Back to Lego Star Wars for me.(shame)
