Would any of you be interested in having a SFF Club website in order to have up-to-date information on SFF cases, components and other types of info.

It would include a FAQ for all the types of SFF and other SFF Club related stuff.

It is hard to have information here on the forums so I thought it might be a good idea. :D

We got one against...I wish you guys would post why you would like it or why you wouldn't
 
i think we need a dedicated site. it'd be much easier to post content specifically targeted at SFF enthusiasts if we have a dedicated site that is not limited by what we can do within VBulletin markup.

One thing to note. I'm a member for both the SFF group and the HTPC group. We're going to see a LOT of crossover between the two because a lot of HTPC folks are using SFF platforms.

It would be prudent (and give us more avenues for original content) if we cover both to some degree.
 
how is a site any better than, SMALL FORM FACTOR SYSTEMS section? i mean, its for SFF, specifically. just actually flesh out the stickies when you make them, the SFF FAQ sticky is a good example of how not to make a sticky.

do stickies right, and we don't need a site. and I think the forum format works much better, and will get much more traffic being at a well established site.
 
i'm for it.

the SFFs are becoming more and more popular. the market for them will just grow larger and many newcomers will make the jump over to SFFs and will need a place to get answers to questions about them. i'm glad to be apart of this. the only reason i registered for [H]ardforums was because of the SFF section.
 
Theres already one, sfftech. I dont think its 'that' necessary right now...

The problem is I can't get the admins to make the stickies better :(. The SFF FAQ is out of date and I can't edit the first post...same thing with the SFF Club sticky.

yeah, sfftech is good but doesn't have a very good FAQ for anything other than a shuttle.

This would be more related to the club than something like SFFtech. In other words, it wouldn't be very complicated...just a better lay out for the stickies that are currently unorganized on these forums...and maybe a little extra.
 
Granted a website would be a pain for me and anyone else that ran it...but if its worth it then I will get it done. Michigan PC would have to sign off on it first of all. I would then take the advice of the SFF members who voted in this poll...probably add more weight to the more active members.

Do you guys that voted no atleast agree that the stickies need to be cleaned up?
 
all of the stickies DEFINITELY need to be purged and cleaned. that's a really good place to start -- maybe the best place to start. let's start by working on the stickies and see if, through that, we discover a pressing need for a dedicated site.

To clean up the sticky threads a moderator makes a new sticky with all info and just references the original post in a link at the bottom. Problem solved. See other forums on this site...

The problem is that you have not asked me about this. The next problem is that you have not asked for anything specific. "Clean up stickies" is all you have to say. Ok, that is done. All old stickies are cut loose. If you need more updated stickies then build them. :) Need anything else?

ok, well, the SFF Club can just get to work on a new and improved SFF FAQ and SFF Club stickies. I think Dillusion's Motherboard should go in the FAQs but that is up to him.

As for the website...if i do it then it will be seperate from [H]ardForum and just another SFF website. Looks like we might be able to solve this thank to Kyle though.

If Kyle would be so inclided to re-sticky the 'mATX mobo thread' (I update it weekly, thats one we wanna keep) and change the title to 'official mobo thread'....that would be a big help ;)

I voted no because we already have SFF tech.
I agree that cleaning up the stickys/FAQs is a top priority. Just start putting one together, and once we get it to a good point have a mod lock it and sticky it.
 
Where are the 25 that voted yes? I see no reasoning coming from them.

As I said, I might just make another website anyway...they are cheap to make and would be a good resource to compliment SFFtech....but I would only do this if there is a good reason...so far no one other than me as come up with a reason to do it :)

I would only have 1 reason, which is why I voted yes.
I need a [H]ard Enthusiast version for SFF. I really dont care about anything else other then trying to shove the proverbial 426 Hemi into a Chevette mentality.

Not really. They are all about the Shuttle/AOpen/etc SFF. I hardly see them busting a reveiw on the SLI mATX board, or the possability of running Xfire on that one 945 MSI board with the open ended PCI-e 4x slot.
I personally thin the SFF has alot of room to grow for the enthusiast, yet no website out there is really pursueing(sp) that goal.

I don't have the time or the resources to really do a bunch of reviews....however, if I made the website it would be largly community based...meaning I would get someone else to review everything and I would just post it. It would have to be in a standard format though.

Those points (from you and your OP) are all semantic. If you're running a site *seriously*, you'll have a CMS to handle formatting, etc. and all of the content (image links, articles, etc.) will all be data stored in a database.

The *how* of running an SFF site is really not the most important thing right now. Right now, the *why* needs to be addressed and fully decided upon. From the "why", the topics that will be covered on the site will emerge and whether or not it is worthwhile should become very obvious.

Prior to this thread, I had never heard of SFFTech. I went over there and was pretty let down. Like Steeeeve said, they focus on a very limited subset of the SFF community. I Googled and couldn't find any sites that are broader and include the community as a whole.

I wholeheartedly support the development of an appropriate site, but I think that we need to work on cleaning up our own back yard (the stickies and such on this forum) before we meander outside and try to make a dedicated site.
 
ide like to have the option, for another set of forums and news, maybe some reviews, the site could rle grow quickly, i didnt know much about my shuttle, and these forums helped a good bit, but not a ton, more info, some reviews, and a good set of forums would be great! sfftech.com isnt that great :-/
