Been reading this forum for a long time lurking in the shawdows gathering information for my new build and have came to like the SFF computers. Through research and my thoughts I came up with this list, please critique and give me your ideas.

1) What will you be doing with this PC? UT2004, C&C 3, CAD
2) What's your budget? < $1000 Are tax and shipping included? Yes
3) Where do you live? Way out West
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. Please be very specific.
4Gig ram, Vista 64, Case, HDD, DVD/CD Burner, Fan for CPU, Misc parts (additional fans, wiring?)
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. Just bought Corsair HX520, E8500 CPU
6) Will you be overclocking? Would like a small overclock, if I can figure out how, not absolutely critical.
7) What size monitor do you have? Have 22" HP 2207
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC? This month
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support?.
Not interested in X-fire, SLI, or all that stuff, just want a solid small computer.

What you want for a case is entirely personal preference, all are good choices. Look over the pictures of them at newegg and read some reviews. I personally love my SG01-F
I would spend the extra and get the GTX 260, its well worth the money and will do ALOT better then the 9800GT.I also have the Scythe Shuriken and I rather like it. LOTS quieter then the stock intel POS and cools better to boot. Im gonna put on a larger 100mm fan once I start overclocking.

I also use the Eclipse keyboard, here's a tip, the paint on the keys wears away really fast, put a layer of fingernail clear polish coating on them.

Everything else looks good. A few pics of "Black Ice" in the SG01-F chassis.

Funny you should reply Freezebyte, your computer was one of my big inspirations when putting it together. So go with the 260, but get the 192 or 216 version? What misc. parts did you need when putting it together?

im working with the v350 right now, i like the way it setup but i dont like the idea that the top doesnt come off, i will probably drill out the pop rivets on it and make it easier to work, im gona be stuffing water cooling in this thing like tremloe did to his with a few more tweaks.

Depends how much you wanna spend. The 216 is a bit faster but not by much vs the extra cost. Read some current [H]ard reviews on recent games to get an idea of how they compare.

As far as misc: a philips screw driver, zip ties, needle nose pliers, rubbing alcohol, paper towels, saran wrap, AS5, antistatic bags and cardboard to put the mobo on and mount the HS is what I used.

Sorry for the misunderstanding I meant like extra cables, right angle connectors, plugs, etc. Most of that should come with the motherboard should it not?

Yeah, you should be good but keep in mind not all mobo boxes have right angle connectors.
 
So how does that E8500 compare to say a Pentium 4 2.53? I haven't built a new computer since '01 or 02'

Did you end up putting in extra fans or better fans in your comp, Freezebyte? How many come with the SG01 Case?

umm, an e8500 definitely destroys any p4.

An E8500 will rape and eat a P4 2.53 Ghz for breakfast. It's like asking how does Steven Hawking compare to a 3 year old in theoretical physics. :)
 
So are there any thoughts on ATI vs Nvidia, I have tried to research it out but have not came to a best bang for the buck conclusion yet. I do a lot of drafting and play games on occasion.

Best bang for the buck IMO: $80 9600GSO 768MB, $160 HD4850 512MB, $220 GTX260 with 192SP

Holy shit, that long? I as running a 1.4ghz Athlon XP back in that day. Well, my E8500 absolutely destroys my old Athlon 64 3700+ in comparison, a P4 is crap to an A64 and comparison to a Core 2 Duo, its not even funny.

Came with 2 silverstone 80mm fans, it has 3 80mm hole mounts.. I used some left over LED fans that I had that were a bit quieter then the silverstone ones for my case and give it a nice white glow.

I'm an nVidia man all the way in my experience though my 9800PRO was good for the time *compared to the awful 5800/5900 series* Best bang for the buck is the 4850 or the GTX 260 192core. ATi has been having some serious driver problems lately, I dunno what their deal is.

For putting on my AS5 but keeping my finger oils and skin particles from contaminating it. Old trick I learned years ago.
