Well, we couldn't get through one weekend with everything working right, now could we?

Could we PLEASE get some way to remote monitor our PS3's so we can avoid wasting better than a day's electricity (and counting for those who still aren't aware) doing nothing? This was one of the first things put on the wish list Sony.
 
Not to mention those 20 point WU people were getting that took 7 hours to complete.
But im hooked and I have a ps3 so I got it folding. Well not much today. Cant upload results
 
I was still letting my 40gb fold 24/7, but with the 20 point units and the servers being down all weekend I'm going to put a stop to it. Not worth it any more.

 
I already pulled the plug on my ps3, no worth the aggravation over the PS3 issues. I'll keep it around for my other needs (BR movies and gaming, especially when Final Fantasy 13 get released in 2009).

 
I still haven't taken my PS3 offline yet. I know I don't sit in front of it and watch for the 20 point WU's, but I was wondering when the last time was anyone saw one. I never have, which means little. Are they still floating around or did it just take a few days to get them out after PG said they stopped them?

The other day I checked, and I had 4 of them total. A bit frustrating, but when you consider all the server outages and all the time it spends sitting idle waiting for the next work unit (which is getting longer and longer as time goes on), its not really that big of a deal when you look at the big picture. Unless there's more than one project of them thats no longer on the psummary and I have more than I thought. :D

I'd be more bent out of shape over all the down time on the GPU clients. Mine gets into can't get work loops for an hour or two at least twice a day. :rolleyes:
 
I'm thinking hard of pulling my PS3 offline also. With me adding a pair of 9800GX2's in december, with room for a second pair later in the year, I just don't need the production. Given the power draw of the console (and if it breaks, no Blu-Ray for me), it's just not worth it. I haven't checked for any of the 7hr/20pt units, but that right there means something is seriously skewed at Stanford. I know it's all about the research, but I'm not going to go broke for the Cure. And anyways, I currently have 4 9800GT's, 1 8800 GTS, and 2 280 GTX's folding, as well as a handful of CPU clients. It was a really nice points boost before the GPU client, but is currently obsolete in my farm. I'll monitor the FAH PS3 boards, and if something major changes (extreme de-valuing of GPU WU's for instance) I may put it back online.

Sorry, starting to ramble now...





 
It appears to be back up finally. I'll fire mine back up and see what happens.

Edit: downloaded a unit, first try, but the last completed unit will not upload.

Now I want to go home to see what mine is doing, but that might just be because my supervisor is out this week.

I think I am going to have to hook up the PS3 to my Kill-A-Watt this afternoon.

Methinks I wont like what I find.

Consumption for a PS3 is between 160w while watching a DVD to 185w while gaming... I expect folding to be closer to the full 185w figure...

Which PS3 ? Not all versions have the same consumption especially the newer ones with a die-shrunk chip.

 
I might kill-a-watt mine just for the heck of it. It's got the die-shrunk cell in it at least.

 
My PS3 80gb, one of the new ones with a Samsung 320gb 5200 rpm shows 120'ish watts on a Kill-A-Watt while folding.
Different wu might increase that though?
 
Kill-A-Watt tells me mine takes 129 Watts to fold the protein it was working on this morning. Last night it was saying 135W.

The Kilowatt Hours (which is what is really important) said 1.79 KWH after 13 hours and 20 min. We will see what happens over a longer time period.

I thought FFXIII was going to the 360 now?
 
Actually, the latest news I heard is that FFXIII is going to get released on both platforms. The FFXIII Versus is just PS3 as crawford60 said, for now. I also think a few DVD since FFXIII will surely use BluRay for lots of storage.

Anyway, if it is wrong by release date, I can always buy a Xbox360 (I could use a Media Extender with my Vista Media Center).
