Serious Sam 2

Game was definitely underrated at GS... not saying it's the greatest... but they should have at least nodded into the respectable 7's. Sheesh.. +.1 would save a litle face. It has co-op for God's sakes. Bet you the reviewers/GS crew blast through it together.

Reg game a bit better than the demo. Some of it still had that aztecy feel I was missing. Haven't ran across as many invisible walls. I don't know why they don't always let you jump of a ledge, just doesnt end up being that noticable as I don't meander off cliffs... but I'm not seeing parts where they invite you to find them like in the demo. Sam could jump over that railing when he's trapped in that room in the demo with the laser walls, just the invisible walls kept him from doing so. May not be great but mindless frag fests are getting bagged on lately when it seems the target audience might not think enough of that to drop it into the 6's. I mean, most games in that range arent enjoyable.

Serious Sam was never meant to be one of those ultra detailed games. It is just one of the good old fashioned, mindless fragfest games. Problem with many people anymore is they want close to real life graphics and, sound in every game. Sam has always been a inexpensive game with high fun factor. If you dont like it dont buy it. I plan on getting my copy today. Also I have bought plenty of those high detail game and, had to down load a ton of patches for them to even work at, twice Sams price yet or, close to. For its price this has a good price to fun ratio, I dont doubt.

Hand cramping up from playing for a few more hours.:D

I notice I have really bad frame rate after a quick load for like almost a whole minute. Which is weird with 2 gigs of ram. If I quickload twice (which takes only moments a piece), my frame rate is normal within seconds.

Patching it only now though. Just noticed.

Serious Sam was great in co-op mode, I don't know why but I didn't really enjoy it alone. This one seems to be about the same, although it lacks the open feel of the first couple games. I think that this might be just the level they chose in the Demo, I hope that's the problem.

Will probably pick up my copy of SS2 when in town tonight. Been looking forward to it more than Quake4 actually. :D

grabbed it earlier, the demo level is probably the WORST one they could have chossen, I have been having alot of fun just playing through the first 4-5 levels. The co-op is not going for me right now, since I seem to be one of the few that patched (which has been up since yesterday...) so I haven't been able to join any games.
That's exactly what I've been reading in the forums - that the demo was a VERY poor representation of the game.
Plus you have to take into account many got stuck at the 1st gate & assumed that was all the demo had to offer.

The 1st SS title broke the record for the most baddies on the screen. And according to the
Croteam interview SS2 will retain that record with over 300 enemies on the screen at one
time. It's what they designed the 'serious engine' for - gratuitous fragfest. Not eye popping graphics.

This game is terrible. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
It might be worth 5 dollars. It belongs on the rack with those 2000 atari games in one cds. :)

Just got the game today, I love it!

I loved the first and second encounters as well.

I think the graphics are great, especially if you got a 7800 series, HDR = yummmmmmm

Also has parallax mapping, nice

It's very demanding on graphics, that's for sure, what a fun game, reminds me of Painkiller, just balls to the wall action

did all the same employees at croteam make SS2?

it's terrible, and an insult to the 1st two

Cartoon style graphics help seperate it from all those other over rated, realistic obsessed, FPS

$30 game that takes longer to complete than most games in the 50-60 range. Good Value?

Co-op play!!! Completely overlooked by other FPS games.

Frantic fights. Non of this slow, sneaking around, bypass everything to complete the level.

Just like the older games..... Non Stop KIlling!!

I do miss some of the old weapons.
I would like for the pumpkin heads to make a cameo in this game. (not finished so maybe they will)

all of those complaining.. I have yet to see what you were playing in and how far you got. Perhaps you should play it in tourist mode seeing as the normal mode is to tough for ya ;)

BTW have images of the first two bosses and playing it alone. Not sure what you guys are playing but this thing alone in hard mode is very very fun. Can't wait to do co-op with my brother in this mode :)

Well I've played through the first 5 levels of SS2 and I think it's a lot of fun so far. :) Don't discount it based on the disappointing demo or lackluster reviews. The important thing is it's a fun game and it doesn't cost $50.

I have am already in level 3. two HUGE ass bosses and one that regenerates. It sucks :)

People who don't like the Serious Sam games, probably expect something totally different than what they actually get from them.

Ok, I got it because it is cheap. SP was not as fun as it has been in the past but MP was just as fun as the game has always been. I say it was worth it.

anyone having sound issues?? i had them in demo and still in retail

none here

no cut outs or anything. It actually works quite well.

This game owns HANDS DOWN !!!! I just finished playing a 6 hour + co-op session with a friend at my house and we had to stop, cause I was forgetting to blink ;) I can not recommend this game enough if you like co-op !!! :D

Thank god for Cro team showing the gaming industry how Co-op is done !

(Look ma I'm a lumber jack)

FYI - .... NEW demo out today.

This new one includes an extra level "Greendale" which gives a much better representation of what the game is all about.

Yep, the screaming headless bombers are back!! :D

I installed this on a couple of machines, one of them had sound issues (stuttering) i fixed it by changing this line in the sam2.ini file... go to

C:\SeriousSam2\Content\SeriousSam2\sam2.ini
and change this line:

gfx_iAPI = 2;
and change it to

gfx_iAPI = 1;

Solved my sound problems...

more on it here:

Anywho, i like the new sam 2, it is different from the first ones, but overall the action is there and the turrents and drivable vehicles are a fun addition also.. it definitely doesn't take away from the action.. but the game is fricken huge!!!! we played co-op yesterday for about 6 hours and i'd say we just scratched the surface....

love the game except. The gun animations on my 2 pistols seems to be broke? and the noise for my guns are terrible. I dont know what the problem is

Well I installed it and now I think I'm going to uninstall it. It doesn't feel right when playing it, the mouse movements feel weird. It's weird because I can play the game with everything maxed out and when I'm running back and forth all movements feel fluid and clean, when I move the mouse it feels laggy and slow to respond. I tried several different mouse sens. settings and nothing seems to work. Looks like this will hit the closet until that issue or performance in general is fixed. Looks really good graphic wise though.

Not saying this is your issue, but I noticed the MX1000 felt sloppy and slow compared to other MX series mice on my A8N-SLi Deluxe. I didn't notice it in every game, but some. I changed to an MX510 after that and all was good.

I later installed that MX1000 on my GF's PC which has a Abit AA8XE mobo with a Pentium 4 550@3.9GHz in it and it works fine even in games on that PC.

Odd.

Be sure to disable vsync, it causes the feeling of mouse lag in many games.

Played SS2 co-op with 6 players the other night.

This game is phenomenal. I'm a true fan of co-op and of the prior two episodes of this series. SS2 is completely faithful to the series and I can only say that I recommend it highly. The sense of scope is very well represented and the transitions between foot and vehicle are natural and very representative of a Serious Sam game.

I miss the sound of 6 miniguns firing in tandem already. :D

Why is it so hard for developers to enable proper widescreen support? All it takes is FOV adjustment with the resolution. I'd think about getting this if it supported proper widescreen, not stretching out the screen.

I don't know, you'd think they'd fix that as widescreen models are getting popular. That is why I didn't buy a widescreen LCD and that's why I don't recommend them to anyone. Especialty not gamers since they rarely work exactly right.

Brent,

In my box there was a flyer that said customize for NV graphics...promissing better IQ on NV cards. Do you know what ATIs might be missing besides HDR? It looks pretty good on my X800xl so I just figured it was more PR type stuff. Thanks

Also if any users are having problems with missing sounds, use direct diag to turn the sound accel to basic..that fixed it for me..grenades and other things now make sounds... yea :)

I FIXed my sound sound issue. i had to set the affinity to 1 processor. fixed all my stuttering and sound issues.

this game like the previous sam's are meant to be played coop on nightmare lvl for the best fun.

There's no good reason not to get a widescreen. Even if a game doesn't support widescreen, I run a pixel perfect 1600x1200.

^ Word, and if your screen does a bad job of stretching it, you can have your graphics card do it(<-recommended unless you have some uber professional screen, your local ATi or Nv card does it better). At least, Nv does for sure. I dont know why there are black bars in SS2 but this stuff is a non-issue. It supports it, whackily, and not without reservation, but nearly every game now does. BF2 being the most notable exception and that hack works uniquely (check wide screen gaming forums - it's not stretched, just the FOV is off, you lose top and bottom, no stretching).

It's worth it. it fills your field of vision better. My Dell 2405FPW, and Sony FW900, I wouldn't trade for equivalent 4:3's... not to mention those tend to be small!

I'll play 1600x1200 before playing a stretched 1920x1200.

Just saying.... as a lot of people don't know they can do that (have the VC scale it).

I think I played Republic Commando stretched. I had a few levels to beat. I don't remember being forced to go 1600*1200 in any game. I think even this commando one had some kind of solution but i couldn't be bothered.

So far looks good
Still playing with settings
at first I was limited to under 20fps

Regardless of what settings I changed. 640x480 with low settings = 20 fps, 1920x1200 with high settings and medium FSAA = 17fps

Had to set processor afinity to 0, had to edit sam2.ini, and restarted fraps. Now im getting better fps than what I had in the demo. Still customizing tho. HDR is off.

run ATi here and no issues even during the massive monster frag fest v serious sam ;)

edit

i got screenies of Kwongo and Zoom zum if anyone is intrested :)

Load your saves twice too. One right after another. Helps me tremendously. Or I'm stuck in the teens for a good minute or two. You would think I didnt have enough ram, but 2gb should be adequate. ;) I will take two split second loads then that shit anyday.

I wish more FPS game engines would focus on large environments.

I had the same problem, after installing the windows X2 fix(including registry changes) and the latest ATI drivers the problem went away.

I bought it, love it. In the single player though, I am stuck. I feel rather n00bish asking how to get past the 2nd gate in Forsaken Compound
