Hey guys,

Anybody got Sennheiser headphones?

If so, you know like I do that a regular portable CD player just doesnt have enough juice to give these headphones. What receiver/CD player combo do you guys recommend?

Im a newb to this stuff and dont know much about amp power and its correlation to my headphones. I got 590 but 580 are pretty popular and pretty close to sound quality to 590, so I heard.
 
Rather than buying a CD player/ reciever that can power your headphones alone, you should get a headphone amp(not saying a good source isn't essential, but when it comes to powering your heaphones, you should be looking at an headphone amp).
 
HD580>HD590. HD590 was a dissapointment in that many thought it was going to be superior to the HD580, but it turned out to not be as good. I would also get a headphone amp rather than a reciever or CD Player.

What's your amp budget?

the real question is... what's your budget? :) I just picked up a portable for about $40 but my PPA is a lot more than that..

head-fi.org = feel sorry for your wallet.
 
Headroom amps are wonderful amps, tho pricey when compared to DIY amps. I myself have a Headroom Supreme portable for my HD580s, and it's quite clean (RMAA shows negligable SNR) and does a Sennheiser good. :D
 
Headroom's low end amps are decent, but overpriced IMO (I used to own a Bithead). For your budget, go with a low end Pimeta or a really nice Cmoy :) The HD-580 is a wonderful can, but needs powah!

Ever consider a pair of Grados? :D

Yeah that goes for everything at Headroom, you can find pretty much everything they sell for 50% of what they charge if you look around a bit.
