I like using my tablet outside to stream pandora etc. I currently just use some old computer speakers.

I'm wondering what you guys would recommend? I see that newegg has a sale on the Pioneer SP-C21 which is meant to be used as a center speaker. What do you think about using that as my speaker for my tablet.

I already have a cheap parts express amp so I can hook up passive speakers to the amp.

I'm looking for better sound than the computer speakers and I like the idea of having one good speaker as opposed to the tiny sub and two satellite speakers my current computer speakers have.
 
That is an interesting option. I have seen similar solutions but thought they all were kind of wimpy. Tiny speakers, not capable of much volume etc.

I'm wanting to listen outdoors so I'm looking for something that can play at a higher volume compared to those small speaker products.
 
This doesn't need to be portable no? Just semi compact and cheap?

A pair of budget bookshelves like the Pioneer SP-BS21 ($50 when on sale), a Lepai T-amp, and a $30-40 Bluetooth adapter will sound better than just about anything else for the money... All in it wouldn't cost you more than $115, you already have the amp so easily less than a $100, it'd blow the doors off those Logitech at the same price even if you can't position the two speakers optimally for stereo separation.

If you're looking for a setup that's easier to move around you could either cobble something together to strap the speakers/amp into one package, or just look around for older Logitech portable speakers that are getting cleared out and add your own Bluetooth adapter. I have some Logitech mm30 in my car's trunk for when I get together with friends to play dominoes, got them years ago for $30 and they sound pretty good off AA batteries.

I wouldn't spend more than that on any semi portable speaker unless you're gonna be using it and moving it on a daily basis, it's just not worth the money for what you typically get with those things.

Bluetooth will work just fine for outside music with a pair of low end bookshelves, you'll get like 25+ feet of range to the tablet if there aren't any obstructions... It'll compress the audio a bit but it's not gonna be very noticeable listening outside and possibly off axis etc. At worst you might notice less bass impact and you can EQ to compensate, with cheaper portable speakers I doubt you'd notice regardless.

If you're within range of a router you can opt for a Wifi solution which can potentially sound better, but it'll be more expensive (easily 3x for most) and can be more cumbersome to configure with different mobile devices etc.

I've had good luck with both the Miccus Mini-jack RX and the Logitech Wireless Speaker Adapter for Bluetooth Audio... They both used to be $40 at Amazon but currently seem to be unavailable or overpriced. I'd check elsewhere or directly with Logitech. The Miccus has the advantage that it's got a battery so it doesn't have to be plugged in, one less wire... The Logitech is nicer if you're gonna leave it in one place permanently since the tablet will auto re-pair to it on it's own (the Miccus goes to sleep when not in use).
 
Oh and you could use just one speaker of course, but why limit yourself to mono audio unless you're gonna move it in and out every day?

I'm willing to move around bookshelf speakers etc as it will give me much better sound. I like the idea of those small portable solutions, but I don't know how well they would do outside.
 
How are you going to power the amp outside? Are you talking about back patio/balcony or something?

Otherwise I would have recommended this: Sony's CFD-G700CP

It takes 8 D-cell batteries and has a line-input for ipods/laptops/etc. Won't sound as good as bookshelfs but its a lot more portable if that's what you want.

Wide velcro strap over the top/bottom? If you run it in between whatever padded feet you stick on the bottom it shouldn't make them any less stable, tho those Pioneers have a shape that kinda curves towards the back don't they? Might wanna put a foam pad in between them too (possibly bent towards the back so they sit flush in front)... You can always put the whole thing in a large duffel to actually move them and then just pull them out together (add a handle loop to the strap).

That'd be my ghetto 15 min solution, you could build something more elaborate with some 2x4's and/or mounting stands though. I've seen quite a few of these setups at HeadFi and elsewhere, probably worth looking around for ideas.
 
I will be using this mainly on my back patio but will also be using it other places but always just an extension cord away from power.

I am having trouble at headfi finding the kind of system I am talking about. You're right though, I probably just need to spend some more time thinking through how to rig this together.
