Secondary reservoir below pump?

My loop is a pain in the Asus to fill, drain, and bleed, and it's entirely my fault.

In the top rear of my case sits a Swiftech all-in-one radiator, reservoir, and pump. The res is tiny, the fill port is awkward and so positioned that bubbles don't easily escape when I'm attempting to bleed it.

What I'm considering is adding a tubular reservoir in the bottom front quadrant of my case, with both inlet and outlet tubes being positioned on the bottom. Its primary function would just be as an air trap. I know filling the loop would be a bit tricky, but once it's mostly filled, bleeding should be a lot simpler... right?

Has anyone ever done anything like this before?

I have a similar rad I use. I added a tubular res between the rad outlet and the pump inlet for extra capacity and bleeding purposes. Any air bubbles work themselves out within a day and I then top off the tube res. When properly bled, every time I've checked the L shaped res part of my radiator, it's clear the bottom of the screw in plug has been immersed in coolant and not air. So it will work well. I have my res mounted externally but you can get one with mounting clips that let you remove it from the case to top off to make things easier on yourself. You can also get a larger sized blunt tip syringe and needle to help top it off in place.

I would recommend adding the res before the pump though, so the pump has a bigger reserve to pull from and and is less likely to run dry during priming.

I can't put anything between the rad outlet and pump inlet; they're built into a single solid chassis. Do you have pictures of your setup, by chance?

As long as both tubes are underwater, you shouldn't have any issues.

I was thinking that should be the case, as long as the rest of the loop is filled.

Correct. Air cannot make its way into tubes that are underwater, and empty space can't just appear inside your loop.
