Will work in AM3+ boards. ;) With even better IPC. It will use Piledriver cores instead of bulldozer cores if I read that right. Just make sure you get an AM3+ 990FX board it sounds like you might need that board to take advantage of all the features, not 100 pct sure tho.

So in Q3, 2012, AMD will launch its next generation of Bulldozer FX processors codenamed ‘Vishera’. As we discussed about AMD Vishera in our previous posts, AMD is going to use the next generation ‘Piledriver’ modules in Vishera, thereby facilitating the increase in IPC (Instructions per Clock). If you have decided to go with Bulldozer processors, after its release, then you may upgrade to Vishera without changing the motherboard, as these new CPUs, which are scheduled for 2012 use the same AM3+ socket.

Bulldozer is not even with us yet until mid-October and yet there is already talk of its replacement which is due some time in 2012 providing it is not as plagued with delays as Bulldozer has been. The new Vishera CPUs will be part of the Volan (which replaces Scorpios) platform and to throw even more names in to the mix, the Vishera CPUs will be formed from Piledriver cores which will be improved Bulldozer cores: still based on the 32nm fabrication process. You shouldn't joke like that as there really are people who will believe everything they read on the internet. This AMD subforum is a good example based on the tin foil crowd that I see arguing back and forth.

Yes I definately heard it right, Bulldozer is getting pulled as it didnt match up so AMD has been hurrying to bring Piledriver in instead. It's like a big gift for all those that waited patiently.

Its the truth. Genuine. I've seen the benches but NDAs are a bitch man. My lips are sealed etc. etc. :D

Forget that, I heard the 4th generation is right around the corner. It will run off a flux capacitor and thus enable time travel, back to the CPU speeds of the year 1990. It is codenamed "Screwdriver".

Anyhow like I posted in the first post.

The new Vishera CPU’s will be designed to combine with the new PCI-E generation 3 discrete graphics based on the 28nm Southern Islands GPUs.

Sounds like to me there will need to be newer motherboards in 2012 from AMD that are designed to run PCI 3.0.

Build a Bulldozer AM3+ 990FX this year or hold out for the Piledriver modules with PCI-E 3.0. Or just drop an X6 in place of my X3 if they are on a mad sale come Black Friday sales in Novemeber. Whew tough choices await the AMD fans. ;) Makesa me want to kinda wait, but I'll be needing 3TB drives soon and could use a UD7 with 8 Sata 6GB's compared to my 5 Sata ports on my current mobo.

Anyone know how close current high end GRFX cards are to saturating PCI-E 2 bandwidth?

If the information out there is correct, Vishera will run on AM3+, and won't have an integrated PCI-E controller. More than likely, there will be a PCI-E 3.0 successor to the 9-series chipsets.

Screw Piledriver, get a name like Devastator, that will bring in the money (and G1 80's kids).
 
You'll be wanting the Trinity Devastator Duo then. It's one of the codenames in the catalyst drivers that popped up a few versions ago.

I'm more keen on native USB3 support though. PCIe 3.0 wouldn't matter much unless you use dual GCN or Kepler cards, IMO.

I'm rooting for them but I'm kinda tired of the Duke Nukem Forever crap.
I'm sure they'll have something to "match" Intel's offerings at some point, but they're just being cockteases now.

I must admit after all this time its not looking good. With this kind of delay, with this kind of product for whatever reason, someone somewhere has f**ked up big time.

Either the product doesnt work. Its not fast enough. The Fabs are screwed or there is a major flaw in it. It will all come out in the end.

I dont think its due to a spelling mistake on the retail boxes.
 
If they had a product that could put out some seriously competitive numbers they would have done a paper launch at least by now.

But if their chip is lackluster and not particularly competitive, they probably benefit more from continued speculation.

Everyone is talking about Bulldozer right now, but once Bulldozer is released and people see how bad it performs no one will be talking about it anymore. If you were AMD which would you choose?

Not sure if you all remember, but people were just as excited before the Phenom was released - and now Phenom might as well be synonymous with Celeron.

At least those are my thoughts at this point. I hope I'm wrong as I love good competition as much as the next guy.
 
Yeah, this is beyond bizarre.
NO benches on the much awaited Bulldozer and they are talking about the next generation already.
I have a strong feeling the performance will be underwhelming.:rolleyes:

Or am I incorrect and current PCI 2.0 slots will easily be updated to 3.0 with a mobo bios update. I was under the impression that PCI 3.0 will change the way data is transfered on the slot by PCIe 3.0 removeing the requirement for 8b/10b encoding and uses a more efficient 128b/130b encoding scheme instead. It also uses dfferent silcon, how can a bios update change silicon buddy?

Buying Intel and/or waiting on Jesus is more of a travesty than waiting for AMD's next cutting edge CPU design imho. :p
 
It's pretty much expected that bulldozer 1 will not beat sandybridge. I imagine that bulldozer 2 will def. beat it and intel won't have any answer for it. Ivy bridge is not any performance increase(atleast on the cpu side). I guess the only thing is Sandy bridge -E, do we know if this is going to be an 800$ chip or whatever yet?

Ivy Bridge actually has a lot of potential assuming Intel is not flat out lying about its 22nm 3D transistors. However without any competition from AMD, Intel does not have to get the most performance out of it so not to compete at all with SB-E. Ivy Bridge will bring 65W 8 threaded processors that are at least as fast as their 95W models and 95 W models with much better GPUs.
