Hello

I recently bought a 7200.10 400gb and it is incrediby noisy when seeking-clunking and loud clicks. Its even louder than my 7 year old deathstar. Does anyone else have this problem with this drive? Should I try returning it under being defective? Any advice is appreciated!
Thanks

I have tons of 7200.10s and i pretty picky about noise and i do not think they are bad, the 74GB raptors i have a little more noisy and the raptorXs are even worse, IMO I think you drive is dieing, run Spinrite or Seagates drive tools on it and see what happens....

on cold boot i can hear a little hum from the motor but after a couple mins it gets pretty quiet and can't hear it over my fans which are all running (9 fans) 2400rpm or less.

I've got 3 320GB 7200.10 and they are very quiet even under high access sounds like you might have a bad drive

MINE IS REALLY NOISY. It's as annoying as that CAPS LOCK font. I got mine from fry's. I wonder what I should do..hmm.

What drive diagnostics have you run?
What does SMART show?

My 250GB is not very loud at all, although I can certainly here it over my quiet Yate Loons.

If a hard drive makes a click at any time, then it's dying. You can return it but all Seagate drives do come with a 5 year warranty. So you may want to RMA that drive and Seagate willl send you a new or refurbished one.

Sounds like a bad HDD to me....I can barely hear my 320GB over my case fans. It's one of the quietest drives I've heard.

I have 5 320gb drives sitting 2 feet from my head and they're very quiet. Initially I had one bad one that made the sounds you describe. I just had to RMA two 400gb 7200.10 drives to Seagate and they made sounds like that too. If you just got it, send it back.

I have a 250gb 7200.10 and it makes so much noise when writing and seeking that i can hear it over my TT leafblower fan . Never had any issues with the .9 drives build in taiwan . The .10 i got is build in China and i guess they have quality issues with china build drives .In my opinion seagate is not was it used to be before the .10 came out . I would stay away from them for a while, there are too many bad ones out there .:(

i bought a 400gb from intogamer and it clicked horribly. drive was horribly broken. damn you intogamer ;). but the rma worked great from seagate :)
