Sceptre x22wg-Gamer 22" LCD

DiceMann, thanks for the pics. The mount arm definately looks like a worth while investment, especially with the color shifts you can get with TN panels, would ensure that I always have the best vantage point. Hopefully I'll be able to pick up one of these Sceptres from Costco before the rebate expires. Thanks again for the pics.
Cheers

I just want to point out that it is impossible to scale an image with 1:1 pixel mapping. 1:1 pixel mapping really has nothing to do with scaling. 1:1 pixel mapping just means you can display the 720p image with black borders on the sides without any scaling. So it displays the 720p image on the screen without upscaling and the unused pixels become your black borders. Down scaling from 1080p/i to the screen's native resolution is not 1:1 and some information is lost.

Heh, that's what I get. Yea I was thinking about scaling all along and suddenly said pixel mapping for some reason. This guy is correct. :)

By the way nice pics DiceMann... they give a good impression of the viewing angles.

HI all i plan to get this monitor from new egg http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16824112005

I also plan to buy another DVI cable roughly 20 bucks from new egg since I am hearing quite a bit of complaints from the one that comes installed. I am on a 17 inch CRT so either way this is a huge upgrade for me and I will be using my 360 on it and Wii as well movies should look great on this beast to!

So from what I am reading you have to set all your colors manually the monitor does not have a default I assume or the default is to blue? I assume this is an easy task to do. I am running a X800XL: PCI Express graphics chip atm with Omega 3.8.252 drivers I assume I will have no trouble with these drivers and this monitor? ( If anyone is using omega here)

I will be purchasing this next week. I been looking for a great monitor and really I cannot seem to find a monitor that can beat this out for this price especially with all the features it has. So I am assuming I am making a good choice here?

Anyways glad you are all enjoying your monitors :)

Hi all, I was able to find this exact Sceptre model at tigerdirect.ca but right after the holidays, they don't have it on their site!! Any ideas where else in Canada I can get this monitor from?

Thanks for any suggestions.

P.S. I have looked onto ncix.com and my local stores with no success.:(

If this monitor is attached to a PS3 via HDMI cable, will sound be played from the monitor's speakers? Can the headphone jack be used to play this sound thorugh a set of computer speakers? Thanks

Intresting that no one here knows about the company warrenty of this monitor :(

to the above poster there are audio jacks on the monitor so i assume it would also play through your speakers and the speakers of the monitor.

If there are headphones pluged into the monitor the monitor speakers are muted.

edit, sorry ddin't see the HDMI question, yes, if HDMI is connected it will play audio via HDMI cable source and no other audio input cable required.

Had alot of fun playing with this monitor the first day I got it.

Yuck!!! Photobucket's compression not only made the photos jaggy, but the color is nastier as well! People, this is not an accurate demonstration of the monitor itself, but it is a good demo of the stand! I need to find a better webhost who will take my RAWs with ease. I will retake these photos later whenever I have actually light in my room and not just my lamp behind me. By the way, that lamp is also "glaring" and creating a flare on the monitor.

If you select the 1mb option it won't scale your image unless it is over 1mb, which is easily manageable even with Hi Res pictures.

How do I download the drivers for this monitor? I went to the website ftp://ftp.sceptre.com/pub/monlcd/sceptre.inf
But it doesn't seem to have any links, just text. Am I supposed to copy/paste some code somewhere?
When I try connect it to my laptop via VGA (all the laptop has), it does not have the correct resolution (1680x1050) as an option, so I choose 1600x1200. Text on this set-up seems blurry, with extra shadows (I think they are called overcast or something) on all the characters/images. Is there any way to fix this?

That would be the driver. Copy and paste it into notepad and then save it as a .inf. Direct Windows to using that as the monitor driver.

do you have to do this no matter what when you first get the monitor? or only if its giving you troubles?

ah ic, i really cannot wait till next week to jump from this 17 inch CRT to this 22 inch beast!!

still do not know what type of warrenty ( extended) plan i should get from the newegg website that i listed on the last page.

I got mine today. No dead pixels. I used some of settings people have posted in the previous thread. Hooked my PC up with the DVI cable. I used the DVI cable that came with my Geforce 6600gt that I got last year, I didn't even bother using the supplied DVI cable since I've heard nothing but problems with it. I ran my computer speakers to the headphone jack and then ran my PC soundcard to the line-in on the back of the monitor. I had no problems hooking everything up. For some reason, my eyes just can't seem to adjust to running it in 1650 x 1080. It puts a terrible strain on my eyes so I'm running my desktop in 1440 x 900. I'm running my games in native 1650 x 1080 though and they look beautiful.

I hooked my PS3 up to the HDMI slot and it looks unbelievable in 1080p. I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get 1080p on the monitor because I've heard of some people having artifacting issues using 1080p and the PS3. It appears that I have gotten a monitor that has the latest firmware on it which fixes the artifacting problem.

Everything seems to be working great, only 1 big problem - and that is the backlight bleeding on a solid black screen. Mine is terrible along the bottom of the monitor. Its something I guess I can live with, but I hope they address this in future versions of this product. Its very noticeable and distracting, especially when I'm playing a Blu-Ray disc on the PS3 because of the black top and bottom borders when the movie is playing in its OAR.

Here are some pics that I took. Please note that I suck as a photographer and my digital camera sucks. The pictures really don't do it justice.

did you try the tigerdirect stores? i picked up the last one at the woodbine location. try the other one near sherway gardens...they might have some.

i actually bought it AFTER they took it off their site...i guess i was lucky then?

bill0527,

Can I ask what site you bought yours from? I am going to use it on a PS3 at 1080P and would like to get one with the new firmware that won't have issues. I'm guessing if the site you got it from sent you a new one they probably don't have any old ones left.

The DVI cable I got with my first Sceptre x22wg in October was bum, but the one I got with my second unit 2 weeks ago was a totally different cable, and a good one. I think Sceptre is (wisely) using a different supplier now.

As for the backlight problem, it won't ever be perfect, but many owners (me included) turn the "LAMP" setting down to 1 or even zero and this seems to help. I see you've downloaded the new PS3 Gran Turismo demo. :D That game rocks! The game play graphics are as sweet as the cut-scenes! BTW: Your photos are much better than many posted. Thanks.

I just ordered one of these from Newegg. I have been using a Gateway 24" for a few days and it has a few quirks but the main issue is the size just doesn't suit my application. I have a Sceptre 20.1 " at work and I actually like it more than my 2007WFP. I considered other 22" but Sceptre was one of the only monitors at Newegg covered by the standard return policy. I also noticed this policy includes 1 year replacement from Newegg. I wonder exactly what that means and how liberal their policy is

Made the plunge and ordered one yesterday (set to arrive tomorrow)

Ive been using a Dell 20" and 19" LCD side by side for dual view but wanted 1 monitor to replace them both. Hopefully I wont be disappointed.

I got mine from Costco.com, but the monitor appears to have been sent to me directly from Sceptre. I ordered mine on December 28th. The monitor was shipped to me in its original factory packaging, with a UPS label on one side of the box. There was nothing on the box that indicated it came directly from Costco. Costco is probably just taking orders for these monitors and having them shipped directly from Sceptre.

I upgraded to this from a junk 19" LCD. This one is much better. I am very happy in my purchase. The backlight bleeding is noticeable, but not terrible. All and all that is prob. the worst problem with this monitor. If I was to do it all over and purchase a monitor, I would still go with this monitor.
