1) What will you be doing with this PC? Gaming? Photoshop? Web browsing? etc
Gaming (SC2, Dragon Age 2, Crysis 2, Portal 2, etc), DVD/Bluray encoding, standard web/e-mail stuff.
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?

4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
Case, PSU, motherboard, GPU, memory, CD/DVD burner, CPU fan since I'll be OC'ing, maybe a SSD for an OS drive? Otherwise, just a relatively small mechanical HDD. I think that's everything
5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
Sony Bluray drive, Creative x-fi soundcard (PCI), PCI-E x1 802.11G wireless card, possibly Nvidia 285 GTX for Physx (unless AMD are the GPU's to go with - Physx isn't that important to me), Seagate 7200.12 1TB, Seagate 7200.12 1.5TB, and 2 2TB Seagate LP HDD's

All I really need are slots for my soundcard and wireless card. eSATA wouldn't hurt, I've made use of them in the past as I add drives above what onboard SATA ports are available

I have a Microcenter close, I intend to buy the i7 2600k from there, that's why a CPU isn't listed :) I assume I can get a SB build within my budget... I posted another build thread awhile ago, but it was messy and I've moved since then. I figured it was best to start fresh. Thanks in advance for the help.

I went that route, too. Even with sales tax and public transportation (bus and commuter rail) fares, it still costs less than Newegg's shipped price (in my particular case).
 
Thanks Danny. I rip my DVD/Blurays to mkv as I need to, when I receive new ones. Was encoding the right word?

Anyways, I should have mentioned that my budget does not include the CPU since I'm buying it elsewhere. Sorry for the confusion. Wouldn't a 6950 2GB be a better buy as they can be unlocked to a 6970 or is that not possible now or not relevant to me at my resolution?

My MC is on the way to my parents/friend's houses, so I'm in the general area anyways and is still cheaper with sales tax. :)

For my information and maybe it can help the op to pick the cheaper card (atm) but Danny Bui is the non reference XFX 6950 good? Obviously the 6950 is a good choice and xfx has the awesome warranty but just haven't really researched how they make their non reference.

Well you forgot to add the CPU but other than that looks fine to me.

Intel's 510 series SSDs are already out but the pricing for them is a tad high at the moment. Crucial's C400 SSDs are due out in a few weeks from what I've seen.

FYI, this was the final build. It wasn't stable with my old Creative X-fi, I'm not sure if it's going out or if it is a driver issue. I'm using onboard for now though. Other than that, I'm liking it. I haven't gotten to oc it yet since it was unstable, but it did go all the way to 5GHz when I was playing with the automatic oc tools! :eek: No idea if it was stable at that speed, but it looks like I'm going to have fun with this! :D Thanks Danny et al!
