Just games; turn on play games; turn off so lots of power cycle

None (maybe pull the xfi sound card; not sure of exact model but it is a 'good' one).

I currently have a e8400/8800gts g92 xp system which I use to play games (turn on when playing otherwise it is off; so it gets a fair number of power cycles; I use a linux system for web and stuff and that system stays on 24x7).

My thought was to build a new system (running windows 7 64) and I figure the new system would accomplish 2 tasks; 2 to 4x faster and upgrade to windows 7.

admin said to post this when I am within 3 weeks of build. Since I'd like to order memory today I thought I would move up my build date; should probably build within 30 days of first compoennt purchase for easy return; also I can still pick up the 2500K from MC for $190.

Ditch both RAM sets: Lower RAM timings or higher speeddon't really help out that much to offset an increase in RAM itself:
$78 - G.Skill Value Series F3-10600CL9D-8GBNT 2 x 4GB DDR3 1333 RAM

In other words, you're gonna see more of a performance difference with 8GB of CAS 9 RAM than with 4GB CAS 7 DDR3 1600 RAM.

Ditch the Seagate for this significantly faster, cheaper, equal quality, and larger Samsung drive:
$65 - Samsung Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ 1TB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Ditch the AsRock mobo as it only comes with a one year warranty. For $152, I'd expect at least a 2 year warranty, average of 3. Go for either the Asus or this MSI:

If you're going for HD 6950 Crossfire, you're gonna need a bit more than a 650W PSU. I'd recommend a 750W PSU at a minimum but preferably 850W:

Ok thanks I thinik. Surprise the samsung disk is faster than the seagate; maybe denser platters. Hum PSU is the biggest barf; Guess I'll wait for the seasonic to go on sale again.
