saving power when graphics card idle

hello, is there a method where the computer can switch to the igp hd3000 on the cpu when it is idling to save power when the dedicated is not being used? i heard they had it for laptops but not sure if there's a desktop version. thanks
 
Yes, kind of. Theres a method (think it's just lucid virtu) where you connect it through the motherboards video connectors. The problem is that the IGPs small memory has a limiting effect on the discrete graphics as it must be run through the IGP frame buffer (or something like that). You also had to use the motherboards video connectors only, so usually only a single monitor.

On my motherboard the IGP is really only usable for the QuickSync through Virtu. At least you have the option of using the HD3000 like it was intended.
