I don't know if its me or what, But I have bought like 5 SATAII drives over time.. Every single one of them has fried within 1 hour. I tried setting up the RAID0, Then the last 4 I have had someone else install it. I come home and installed windows.. Then it fries within an hour. So any ideas what could be causing this?

What do you mean by "fries"? Do you have another system you could test the drives in? Do you own a multimeter/voltmeter?

It just quits working, Like it goes completely dead don't run anymore.

And no i don't own a voltmeter.

I would try the drives in another computer. You also could have faulty SATA ports on that motherboard.

My first though would be PSU, check that and then check the motherboard as DeaconFrost suggested. Though if it completely stops working (won't spin up, etc.) it seems more likely the PSU than the motherboard.

As with a thread a couple days ago I posted in about video cards doing the same thing (5 dead in 2 months), VERY RARELY is this kind of mass successive failure the fault of the parts that are failing.

Thanks for the tips.. I'm really confused how everything else works except for the hard drive, I don't think its PSU because my IDE works just fine along with my Video card which is hooked directly to it through 4-pin connectors.

you might have installed the drive into your case backwards. that could cause it to fry. LOL hey what up viper

Are you using the SATA power connectors?

Remember they have an extra 3.3 volt rail. If that's overloading, it could be the source of your troubles. It's hard to just say "get another HDD and try a new PSU" but that might be all you CAN do.

Well, no I'm not using a SATA power connector direct from PSU, its a separate cable from the 4pin to the SATA. Think this would be a problem?

Well if everything else is working fine, probably not.

This is really weird. Perhaps try a different brand of drive; if it dies really quickly you know for sure it's not the drives. If not, maybe you're just a statistical impossibility ;)

So your saying its impossible for me to get a proper SATA drive to work in my system? :p

Well, I don't know making me mad.. I have tried 2 different brands.. Maxtor and WD

At this point, I would just install a new power supply. Maybe the rail that is supplying the hard drives is out of tolerance. It is hard to say exactly as there are a million different configurations of supplies and how they deliver the juice to different parts of the system.

If you do not own and do not know how to use a volt meter, there are no other tests you can do other than just putting a new one in.

In 20 years of playing with PCs, I have never had your situation happen to me, ever. What you have described is a statistical near impossibility just from getting bad drives. Especially in this day when the drives are much better than they used to be. Something else is probably taking them out.

What's make and model 500W PSU do you have? Not all 500W PSUs are the same quality and power output.

A shitty PSU can and will kill your hard drives as shown in my experience:

Hmm ya, looks like it could be just my PSU since it is also stock case PSU.. Could also be my noticeable slowness in my rig. its a Delta Power 500Watt PSU.

18A at 12V and an 8800GT? Replace that PSU before considering any other possible source of problems. Corsair is a good brand, or read the reviews here at [H]. Look for about 30 amps on the 12V rail.

Ok, thanks for the info guys.. I am currently looking at the Corsair 650watt PSU.
