so i purchase crucial M4 ssds and need a sata III port since my old gigabyte UD5 doesn't have sata III support

can someone recommend me a decent card need two ports might raid 0

Highpint rocket 620 seems to have bad rating at newegg

i also read gigabyte and raid pci hardward don't go well together

gigabyte needs to get its act together, or my next build it wont be gigabyte

I did order a m1015 for my server build its on its way, i could try but i doubt it would work

what should i do lol HELP please

My advice is to use your SATA II ports. There are not any good cheap options for SATA III ports at the moment that cost less than $400. And in either case your SSD will not be hampered by SATA II much in real world usage. Benchmarks will be lower however in most real world situations SSDs do not perform faster than the SATA II interface. Look at the bottom 2 rows of CrystalDiskMark. No current SSD hits 300 MB/s in either of these. These are the rows that show the most real world usage and the real reason you get a SSD over a raid 0 of hard drives. Although with that said I do admit some of your usage will be in the 2nd row of CDM and that figure will be hampered by SATA II.

ic thanks for your advice

the crucial M4 price is dropping like crazy

64 gb for 80 with price match i got them for like 70
128 gb for 150 with price match i got them for like 132

crucial m4 trying to clear out inventory ? new drive coming out

samsung 830 needs to go on sale lol

I have an LSI 9260-4i. Works pretty good, get max speeds with my M4.

For that price you could buy a mobo that supports SATA III

And a new CPU to go with it. This is because LGA 1366 mobos are becoming fewer and farther between as that socket is effectively EOL'd.

the thing is even if i buy a LSI card i dont think this gigabyte motherboard will like it =(

I'm still using the Core i7 920 on Asus P6T mobo, the Rocket 620 sucks....with only one SSD connected it maxed out at around 400/260 Read and Write, latency isn't so hot, and it takes a while to initialize during POST. Much better use the onboard SATA 2 port with Intel chipset, but I ended up buying the LSi 9265-8i instead.

I owns gigabyte AM3+ UD5.

I have to disable onboard SATA ( my preference) or set onboar sata to legacy IDE(NON AHCI)
these are my cards on gigabytte UD5:
1) Adaptec 4805 ( works without problems)
2) HP P212 ( option ROM cannot be loaded, since this card can not get I/O address mapping from the BIOS;the only way to check/configure is via GUI/CLI HP software for smart array)
3) IBM M1015 (newest firmware from LSI in IR mode with JBOD; works without problems).

I can set bootable device on 4805 or M1015.

good luck!!!!

If i plug HP P212 to my old AMD Asus mobo, the card work perfectly, where the option ROM can be loaded and I can enter to HP configuration utlitty (F8 key shortcut). :|

the cheapest way to add SATA ports is buying M1015 :D.

Yeah I have X58 and just installed a Sata III ssd and am using the mature intel sata II controller and it is great. Like earlier poster said, unless you're into benchmarking you wont fully saturate sata II in real world usage anyways.
