Hello, I wanted to get some recommendations on where to buy a few odd length SATA cables. I've seen a lot of the systems in the "Showoff Thread" that have their SATA cables neatly secured together and all the exact length.

I'm trying to get a similar look with my first small system that I'm putting together. I currently have a handful of extra SATA cables lying around now, but they all seem to be around 12 inches long. These, of course, would work but wouldnt quite give me the look I'm going for. I know they make different length cables. My IDE/SATA to USB converter came with a 3 inch SATA cable and I've seen plenty of different lengths here in the forum. So I wanted to get some ideas of where people get their SATA cables from?? I'm thinking I'd need one 5 inch and three 8-10 inch cables. Thanks.
 
Newegg has a variety between 6 and 10 inches that might fit the bill (that was where I went to get shorter cables for a tidier case)
 
Thanks guys, I'll check some of these sites out later today.

I have looked around a bit online but mostly found 12 inch or longer cables, nothing too much shorter than that (which is, of course, what I need). I'd prefer to find someplace that had a variety of lengths so I could just place one order for 4-5 of the same cables in the different lengths that I needed.
 
Careful, most of the short sata3 cables I got off newegg have defective latching clips and they cause my sata controller to whine. I think they were link depot brand.
 
If I'm rembering right, the ones with the latching clips are for SATA III?? Is a benefit to using a SATA III cable or for the cable to have a latching clip??

No such thing as a SATA 3 cable, or the other two revisions for that matter. Latch just keeps things more secure, but is not necessary.

Agreed - it's a warm and fuzzy feeling. (Or, in my case, it prevents me from accidentally unplugging something when monkeying around.)
 
Ok, I'll get some exact measurements for the cables that I need and look at these sites. I agree that the extra piece of mind knowing the cable is "latched" is probably worth it, especially in a storage system.
 
Just a quick update here. I've looked at the links above and also continued to search online for my SATA cables. I finally found a website that had pretty much what I needed.

Seems like until I found this site I went round and round trying to put together exactly what I was looking for. I either found all 4 of the cable lengths that I needed in different colors or one of them was a straight / straight instead of having a right angle or they were on ebay, but in 4 separate auctions, so I would have had to pay $50+ total between the 4 cables and 4 separate S&H's.

This site lets you pick right angle / straight or straight / straight in the (4in, 6in, 8in, 10in, 12in, 14in) length that you need. All from one site, so one simple purchase with one S&H. And they're all red, so they'll all match and look good in my case. ;)

Just wanted to pass this site on to anyone else that is looking for custom length cables.
 
I've purchased may cables from SATACable.

The have all the shorter sizes along with left/right and latching cables.

Some have different internal wire size and some don't.
 
What length do you guys recommend for the mini itx cases (fractical design array, lian li 08, or lian li q25b)? I'd like them to be short enough but also the proper length so they're not stretching and can be neatly organized.

It will be different based on the case and motherboard combo, as well as other cables and obstacles. Best thing to do is cut some ribbon and measure point to point, and then add 2" for the connectors or 4" to give yourself some room.
