I was reading about games that are about to be released and i boght a magazine with the Far Cry demo

My Pc is :
Athlon XP 2000+
256 DDR
Radeon 9600 pro 128
WinXP pro
dx9.0b

and this Far Cry demo didnt run as well as i expected ... it was choppy with every setting to max ...
I was surprzed because nothing and i mean nothing else set on max doesnt run that bad.Its like playing quake 2 for everything else.
Is there someone here who can tell me what is the future of this card will it last 1year or it is already outdated?
I was reading some stuff about Nvidia and Ati making cards that are not hardwere comp with dx 9.0 the thing about FSAA the wrong way they made the cards that hey dont calc FSAA curectly ?

ANyway any comments are welcome becaus ei dont knoww how far willt his card last ?

Don't ever judge your system's performance based solely on one game, which is still in demo and not yet final. Hell, most games that are released to retail aren't even out of beta yet.

Well you should get this demo its not the demo version textures are extreamy detiled ... and i am wariing about this v card i dont even know if doom III will run fine seeng this demo chop !!?

WTF????? It's a demo....say what you want about the textures, but it's still a demo. You said all your other games run fine. See a pattern developing?

Cliffs Notes:

1) App in question is a demo
2) Other games work fine

far cry is pushing vcards limits.. my 9500 pro plays it great, but with the settings turned down a bit. Like other people said, it IS a demo, but remember this you bought a 9600pro as opposed to the 9800pro/xt. You get what you pay for, thats the 1st rule when buying anything computer related.

Well from what i have readed over the net 9600 pro was pointed to be the best middle end card and there were big numbers of plp that sayd you will not have to upgarde for 2 years and so on ... any comments on that ?
anyone played doom III alpha on rad 9600 pro ?

Any idea when search will be enabled ? i want to find previus discustions on rad 9600 pro ?

You are talking about using a mainstream card, not the highest end card out there, and running everything at max on a new game (at least I assume it's a new game). You can't expect a vid card, especially a mainstream card, to run every new game with all settings at max perfectly and with no slowdowns or choppiness. New games generally run your hardware harder than older games. That's because the games are supposed to be better and look better. That requires more horsepower.

The rest of your system, other than your vid card, isn't exactly a performance king either. The AXP is still decent for most games, but the 256 meg of RAM is low for gaming. 512 is the mainstream amount right now and has been for a while. I've had 512 meg of RAM in my systems for about a year and a half or more now and would never think about going to anything less. It makes a big difference and not just in games.

Don't go automatically blaming the vid card when it probably has the most horsepower in your system for gaming compared to your other components. In other words, look elsewhere for the possible cause of your problems; you may be surprised.

your processor could be faster (overclock it) and you should diffenatly get another 256 of ram, that is holding back the card to an extent also overclock the card to get the best out of everything

@trapine, Did u even read the post, first of all he was talkin about a 9600pto not XT, also no one said that it wouldnt run far cry, they said about the rest of his system lagging behind the card.

Dimitree what mobo do u have? overclock your proc if u can and also the 9600pro will do 450core 330mem no problem so O/C that to.

Th 9600pro is only as good as the rest of your system

In short it will play far cry, and will run even better with the above steps;)
