Well, considering the 8600gt later become dieshrunk and updated into the 9500gt, which later became somewhere inbetween the gt220 and the g210. Either way, the HD P3000 in that Xeon is just about as fast as the 8600gt, and much faster in QucikSync supported transcoding applications vs Badaboom (only CUDA video transcoder that I have, there are others, however).

I just built a SB setup with the following components.

Currently using the on board graphics. The purpose of this system is primarily ripping blu-ray movies at full quality, encoding, decoding, CorelDraw, and basic use.

Would i benifit from adding in a GeForce 8600GT that i have laying here?

Not really. However, that E3-1235's integrated GPU is Intel's HD Graphics P3000, which is basically Intel's HD Graphics 3000 core found in the i7-2600K, i5-2500K and i3-2105 but with drivers that are optimized for workstation use rather than general entertainment use.

O.K. but if your going cheap you could use a h61 series board and save a bunch of money over the z68. Or even a h67

The other possibility is to use a 2500K and overclock it with that board. An overclocked 2500k should outperform that xeon for less money as well.

Because Q67 is a much superior chipset. I wasnt looking to cut corners on a motherboard to get a better CPU. The options/features on the board i picked out are much better than anything H61 or H67 would offer. I could have put a 2500K in it but the machine would never be overclocked. Even if i did put a 2500K in it and overclock it wouldnt be as benificial as hyperthreading would be. The Q67 and Xeon are better that the rest for what the machines purpose is.

This machine isnt even mine. It was a build for my brother and is a secondary machine only used to browse the web and download stuff. The only other purpose is using Corel Draw X5 and, ripping.decoding/encoding Blu-Ray movies to the WDTV. The primary use machine is a laptop and all gaming is done on a PS3 or Xbox 360 on a 63 inch Samsung DLP. I wasnt looking for build advice as i know what i built was best for his needs, wants vs his budget. It was simply that my brother has a 8600GT doing nothing and if it would be benificial to put it in or to just leave it out.
