This is my short review of SyncMaster 215TW.
Im far from impressed...
I dont understand how its possible that this monitor could get these raving reviews it have got, it have been praised all over.
Lets get to the problems with it.
Just to clearify, I use a brand new ASUS 7600GT and the DVI-port. My monitor comes from Slovakia, oktober-batch, and its sad to say, it seems like this monitor is premature and instable. Often strange flicker when windows boot up, and even freaking bright pixel lines in bright colours sometimes, the last thing you ever want to see on a brand new LCD. It probably could be easily fixed by overriding the scaling in the monitor and do it through the gfx card instead. Dont know about firmware bugs, but it realy seem premature.
I big tip, dont sit to close, the panel seems to have a strange glittery coating, its realy annoying, it gives a dithering effect. But push it back alittle, the effect is lesser but still very annoying.
I tried a week now calibrating it, its to bright for internet/office usage. It have been painfull this whole week. I realy turned down brightness and contrast, but still text glow and almost jumps up from the screen. Its not pleasant to read from.
Its also good at showing the artifacts in the compression of jpg's, which i dont see as a plus, but it gives out all the details of the graphics, both the good and bad of it.
The dithering glittery coating pisses me off most, second comes brightness.
When looking in angles, this gray tone they use on this site on some parts seem to get a metallish look.
What they call the mouse input-lag was a scary experience too at first, but after all drivers installed correctly (monitor, colour type and gfx-card driver) most of it got away. Then using the windows standard driver for the mouse (it dont have acceleration) and put it almost to max speed and check in "enhance pointer precision" box below it. When all this above is done correctly it should not be a problem. I seen people in this forum sending screens back for that reason, which i think totaly are their own misstake, not understanding how settings and drivers should be set.
Now I said just about all the bad you could say about a LCD. How could i say all this, why havnt anyone noticed this in the reviews? Here my history of using one of the best PVA display comes in.
I been using a 1905FP Dell, and it realy whips this 215TW, havnt they come further yet? It seems like the standard have fallen and the quality is lower than those good old 19 inch 8-bit screens.
Im thinking of trading in this expensive monitor for an SyncMaster 940T which should have the same quality panel as the dell 1905FP.
If your using internet, doing webdesign, graphics, programming, using text based stuff. Dont ever get this monitor! Get an old technique 8-bit PVA-panel (2005) 19 inch instead, maybe two of them side by side. Max 250 nits brightness for pleasent usage. The SyncMaster 940T which are missing reviews could be a good bet.
If you already have this 215TW monitor and think its good, then you havnt seen what good looks like yet. If its true accoring to the reviews that this panel is better than most of the other panels on the market, then i dont know what to do, its terrible! We need better lcd's on the market now!
