Love mine. Was a big leap in visual quality coming from my original Vive and Rift.

This is the value-for-money sweetspot VR HMD by a mile.
yup i've enjoyed mine.. was well worth the 300 bucks i paid last black friday, 229's a damn good price, may end up buying another one so i can have one on both systems and not have to move the one i have back and forth..

The B&H Saturday closure thing is a religious thing since the owners are Jewish kinda like Chick-Fil-a is closed on Sunday because the owners are Christian.

Good to see that amazon has price matches since then. However there are still states where BH doesnt collect tax but yeah.

Odyssey+ is ideal for all kinds of video content. Its the highest res oled screen currently available. There are higher resolutions in much more expensive set like the index at $1000 but those are LCD so worse contrast and colors.

Good deal. I recommend.

I have a Vive, a Pimax 5K+, and an Odyssey Plus. (Fantastic Prime Day Warehouse Deals) I end up using the O+ much more than the others, simply because it's far easier pack up and put away, or take to a friend's, or simply take out and use, than the ones with external sensors, etc.

Oled makes the colors pop and the blacks black. The filter on the O+ does reduce or eliminate the screendoor effect, at a cost of a slightly less sharp picture. The Odyssey has a manual IPD adjustment dial, which is very important to me since I have a mammoth noggin and an IPD of 74mm.

The Vive controllers are considerably nicer, but the Odyssey's are adequate. I recommend rechargeable AAs. WMR headsets track fine in good lighting everywhere except directly behind your head.

While it borders on ridiculous -- since it requires my laptop and multiple cables -- I take my Odyssey on long plane trips for work; watching media in the headset totally isolates you and lets you mostly forget about the cramped quarters on a 6-10 hours flight. Most of the lightweight stand-alone sets like the Go either have a fixed IPD or too narrow a range for me to use, sadly.

On the plane, I keep the Odyssey controllers off except when I need to do something like advance to the next show/movie, since they do have bright LEDs on them. Even with those, the headset has a hard time tracking in the very dim cabin lighting of an overnight plane ride, but some genius on Reddit gave me the idea to buy a cheap IR flashlight on Amazon ($8) which fixes the issue.

How is porn on this thing?
To quote every friend of mine that's demoed it: "holy shit!"

It's almost too intense in terms of sensory taxation, and so you can only deal with it in shorter bursts.

For Canadians it is $299 CA$ from MS store. That makes it slightly cheaper then the $229 USD when factoring in exchange. Weird. Last sale @ 299 USD was $450 for me Canadian.

This is very tempting but I think I'll grab the Rift S for $120 more next week. I want the superior tracking plus I have several Oculus games from when I had the original Rift and don't want to fool with Revive.

Live again bump. Still a good value in 2020 at 229. Make sure to used the 5-8% Samsung cashback at various cashback sites like topcashback and rakuten.

Can't say enough good things about this headset. And it'll apparently play Half-Life Alyx really well according to beta testers.

Still the hands down, price-performance sweet spot.

Decided to take the plunge. Been considering an Index for my pc and something lesser for the gf's pc, this made it easy to decide on hers! At this rate I may have to play half life alyx on it anyway, seems like the index is always out of stock.

Good for you! I think you and your GF will enjoy it.

One tiny suggestion from personal experience--sometimes it doesn't go over well if I say something like "I'm getting the best for myself and something lesser for you." Haha. Since you don't know if you are getting a Index due to it being out of stock all the anyways, sell it like you great deal on a VR device you can use together. Emphasize the high resolution screen, the excellent blacks from having an OLED, the ease of setup, and the low price to get a taste of VR. Just can't help throwing a bit of unasked for advice out there--might not apply to your relationship of course and you probably wouldn't put it that way anways but the thought just popped into my mind.

Yeah thanks, it certainly wouldn't be something verbalized, but a consideration for multiple reasons. Primarily because she doesn't use her pc much as it is, and she wouldn't likely appreciate the differences. For example, her pc has a ryzen 2600 with an rx 580 gpu on a run of the mill 24" 1080p screen, she doesn't see the difference in gaming on that vs on my setup with an 8700k 1080 ti and 27" 165hz gsync 1440p ips - except my screen is bigger.

Hell, maybe I will find this to be an excellent experience and forgo index ideas all together!

I'd definately recommend running VR on the 1080ti rig if possible. The Odyssey+ and Index have the same resolution at around 4.6 million pixels which is slightly more than 1440p (3.6m) and more than double 1080p (about 2m pixels).

The more GPU power you have for VR the better as it makes a big difference compared with going from 1080p to 1440p on a flat screen. Some people are sensitive to framerate in VR in terms of nausea. Like for me I was queasy running WMR on a 1050ti and 580 but felt great with a 1080 ti or a 2070S. The closer you can get to a locked 90 fps (odyssey) or locked 120 (index) the better.

Edit: I don't intend to discourage people with 580s or similar from trying VR. You can still have a great time. Less graphically intense games like beat saber or superhot work perfectly fine with even a 1050ti on a laptop (I did that for a bit). Heck, those games can even be run on a quest which has an old cell phone processor/gpu in it (snapdragon 835 similar to a samsung s8). Games like modded skyrim, asgards wrath, or alyx will not work without a higher end GPU however if you are prone to motion sickness.

Very valid points, you've given me some things to think on for the next few weeks while it ships. I may try it out on both, I'm sure it'll be much better on my pc, such was the original plan before she expressed interest. She will absolutely be more interested in the casual side of games. I'll want to give some of the more demanding games a try for the real benchmark. What I don't want, is starting of off with it always being on my pc, then when we get a second one, she notices it's worse on her pc. You're more apt to notice a degradation over an improvement of the same magnitude.

I had ordered on 1/24 and Samsung had my prospective ship date as 2/10. I called to complain about how long they were taking to ship (we live in an Amazon Prime world now) and they told me that they didn't have any product and couldn't tell me when they were getting more in. I got Best Buy to price match it yesterday, got free shipping, and it's out for delivery as we speak!

Seems like a decent deal, but I've heard a lot of reports of iffy tracking compared to Vive or other solutions with tracking beacon devices.

Yeah it's not going to be as good as those, but it's also like 1/3 the cost. Those are in a different price bracket, and would be harder to justify. For me, if I can justify spending $600+ for them, I can save up a bit more and get the index. This at $230 was a lot easier to try out and get my feet wet in vr, so to speak.

So I am absolutely going to need some extension cables for this, and it doesn't seem like there's an easy answer. I will need 10-12' of extension to comfortably cover the play area in the next room. Both my pc and the gf's have usb 3.1 gen 2 usb ports available, which from some reading have been linked to people who have had success. Anyone else here had some success with particular cables?

Similar or better than a 2 sensor Oculus rift and worse than a 3 sensor setup/vive. Works very well in front but cannot track behind head. Its good enough for most games.

The one issue you may experience is with bow and arrow aiming inaccuracy if you draw the controller past your head then look away in the opposite direction for some reason. You will have to aim with you bow arm and not the arrow arm like actual archers do since the O+ can't see the one behind your head or just dont draw as far back.

I use some I got on amazon. With extensions you can run into problems with lack of power leading to audio issues. I use a powered USB hub at the end of my USB extension cable for best results. Bundle it all together with zip ties for less tangle. If your USB ports are good like you mentioned the hub may not be neccessary.

That's fair. As an OG Vive owner the higher res seems appealing, but it seems like it wouldn't be a good all-around upgrade.

Anybody else unable to add this to cart? It does nothing and when I refresh it goes back to samsung.com. Firefox, Edge, and mobile all the same.

Very strange. Just tested on mobile chrome and seemed to work for me.

Strangely I can only access it on my phone. I'm ready to place the order, but I need to know first if the headset is large enough and comfortable for glasses wearers. Is it bigger than the Rift? I found that far too small for comfort.

I had a rift and this is much larger for glasses but would obviously depend on the dimensions of your glasses. I wear my glasses with mine--would recommend getting screen protectors for the lenses to prevent accidental scratches. Including the dimensions of my glasses below for reference if it helps.

FRAME SIZE
  • Frame Width: 144 mm
  • Lens Width: 53 mm
  • Bridge: 18 mm
  • Temple Length: 139 mm
  • Lens Height: 34 mm
  • Frame Weight: 15 grams

I got in on this deal and have had it for a few days. I wear glasses and was surprised that they fit without issue. My girlfriend has glasses as well, she didn't have an issue of them bumping into the lenses. I am waiting on lens protectors to arrive, after some searching these were what keep coming up that you just cut to fit the oval shape of the lenses:

I can add via desktop Chrome. Goes into cart. Question is stock.... guess deal is live again. I am tempted due to the $$ amount on my taxes. Getting more back this year.

Pulled the trigger on this yesterday. Hoping to get my OG Vive wands working together with this to get the best of both worlds. If successful, hopefully I can get the Index controllers later for Alyx.
