Am I the only one that wonders how the hell scientists figured this out?

As revealed by a paper in the academic journal Applied Physics Letters, researchers from National Tsing Hua University in Taiwan and the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology in Germany recently used salmon DNA to build a write-once-read-many (WORM) data storage device. Data is written to the device with a laser and read electronically, and you can enjoy the thought that your data’s sitting on a piece of sushi.

Sushi = Vinegared rice + whatever topping
Sashimi = Raw fish.

...whats so difficult or confusing about that!?

You know what..I thought long and hard how to respond to this. In the end I decided to just go with it is really a money shot discovery.

first thing that came to mind..."Deeez nuts"

Scientist A: "Where do you put the data?"
Scientist B: "In deeeez nuts"

Bah, clicked on this thinking that WD had a new line of Caviar drives in the works.

I learned that in a Japanese class... Technically, a lot of the things we call certain things is totally incorrect, but it is generally understood. That's one of those examples (DSL modem, PIN number, etc.).

I hope they wear gloves. Personally, as long as it gets the job done, they can make a super fast data device out of a herpes sore for all I care. I just don't want to be the guy to play with it enough to go AH HA!

So... is this specific to Salmon, or can I get the same result jamming a goldfish into an eSATA port?

Sounds like a reasonable storage medium to me. If I got lasered in the nuts, I suspect I'd remember it for a really, really long time too.

Nuts, I cant think of a decent pun. Guess I am out of my depth here. Not being willing to make bad, gay-fish type jokes.

In another light this brings up a whole new world of one-handed computing. Not to mention all the guys who will be saying "Hey baby I really do need to xxxx-off to porn at the computer tonight, we need more room on the hard drive....

I always have said men are better with computers.... it's our DNA. (Just kidding to all the non-men out there)

Computing will be a lot more hands on in the future? No?

Guess this makes drugs like viagra that more important to the future of our world.

Guess it gives all the teenage boys something productive to do for once.

Will storage based on freshwater salmon perform better than their farm raised counterparts?

Gives a whole different meaning to Doctors Evil's sharks and laser beams argument.
