Ryzen 9 5900X Uncommanded Restart

Haven't Posted in years, so please accept my apology up front if I'm not using proper protocol on this site.

Upgraded system from AMD FX9500 as I was beginning to get random "lock ups" while gaming. The problem became more prevalent during COD Cold War.
System Currently:
RYZEN 9 5900X Unlocked, Based Frequency - 3700.0 Mhz
ASUS TUF Gaming 570 Plus (WIFI), Chipset AMD 570 (Bixby), BIOS version 2607 (08/14/2020)
be quiet, "Dark Rock 4 Pro" CPU Cooler, 250W TDP
Corsair "Dominator" DDR4, 2 ea x16 gig, base frequency 1066.7 Mhz
Super Flower Leadex III 750W Modular Power Supply
Sapphire/ AMD Radeon R9 270 GPU
With the exception of the GPU, all hardware in the above list were the upgrades.
I was very surprised that the upgrade actually accepted all programming within my hard drives with virtually no hiccups. Very stable platform and with excellent response time to commands.
Note: Nothing was changed prior to upgrade regarding Operating System (Win 10 Pro w/ latest updates up to current date), nor any other programs.
I decided to cut to the heart of the matter; COD Black Ops! Loaded Black Ops running through "Steam" account and it loaded ultra fast and played with no problems whatsoever. Ok, next test was "Black Ops Cold War" through Battle.net "Activision". Battle.net loaded with no problem, but after clicking "Play", the system began its loading sequence then suddenly the Computer did a full restart. Computer booted and loaded back up as though nothing happened. Tried it again and again and again and same results. Not good, bad juju... Is this hardware issue??? . Loaded OCCT and began running various stress tests affiliated with hardware replaced (CPU, Cooler, MB, Ram, Power Supply). Results after multiple tests which monitored Temp, PWR, Volt, Freq, Current, Fan and my patience, no failures were recorded nor observed. The CPU temp did go up as high as 80C., but that was @ 100%, but could not discern a definite cause for this anomaly. This is not chronic or wide spread issue specific to this computer thus far, but only specific to "Cold War". Well then I begin pilfering through settings, scan for repair, uninstall, reinstall, 1 beer, online you tube searches, another beer, BIOS review and changes, reset BIOS back to original state, drank another and getting a don't give a s**t attitude by then. At one time or another I have reviewed, altered every program that correlates to "Cold War" within my computer (that being Anti-Virus, Radeon software Adrenalin, Network settings, etc...). This only occurs when loading COLD WAR! Everything else has been working flawlessly. Any ideas or tips on what I am missing here?
Thanks in advance,
deucer

I have a somewhat similar problem. If I do a virus scan on every drive it will restart. But if I leave out that one drive there are no reboots. The drive does have 1 bad sector but runs fine otherwise. What I’m trying to say is can you place the game on a different drive and see what happens

Could you elaborate a bit on what you mean by "Uncommanded Restart"? Are you getting a BSOD first or not? If you aren't getting a BSOD, that would point more toward a hardware issue as opposed to a software issue. If you are getting a BSOD, it could be a hardware or a software problem, but at least the code from the BSOD could potentially give us some information about the problem.

I also noticed that the one component that you didn't test was the one component that you brought over from your old computer. If your GPU is having issues, that could explain both the problems you are having with your old computer as well as the problems you are having with your new computer - especially since those problems seem to be so closely attached to gaming. Do you have another GPU that you can test?

Also, it sounds like you kept the same OS install? Windows 10 is more forgiving than older operating systems when it comes to swapping hardware, even a CPU+Mobo, but that doesn't mean it's a good idea. It can cause small problems, annoying problems, that might not be obvious at first. If you have a spare hard drive, you might try a fresh windows install using the new drive and see if you have the same issues (can just stick the old drive back in there, with the existing windows install, if not).

Thanks for the responses. Made another attempt to load with same results.

This is what was reported after the restart. No BSOD, just get a beep and it reverts to loading then POST, then loads OS. This game is loaded on a Storage drive, 1 TB SSD as C Drive is only 240 GB. I load all my Music, pics and games on that Drive. Win 7 and 10 both loaded the game using the 9500 Processor. A few hours ago I tried pulling one of my memory sticks to see if it would make a difference. Nothing changed, so I pulled that stick and put the other in and tried it. It loaded the game! So, I decided to troubleshoot to see if it is the MB slot, or the stick and I moved it to another slot. It failed. I moved it to another slot and it failed again. I moved it back to the original slot that worked and it failed... So either my MB is hosed or something is not communicating correctly. Strangely some of the errors reported in Viewer show COM failures. As for the GPU, I know it is old and I thought it could be the problem, but testing via OCCT indicated it was holding good with LOAD application. Right now GPU cost are as high as Processors, but I plan on upgrading and probably sooner then planned. Also, none of these errors will show up in Viewer until I attempt to load the game. I hope this info sheds some light on this issue. Thanks again!

have you tried running chkdsk with the repair command? If there is a bad sector, that should identify it and then flag it so the OS doesn't use it. Then I would reinstall the game.

Also....I believe you said you changed out all of that hardware, without reinstalling Windows? ------- I recommend reinstalling Windows. I know some people will poo-poo about that. But I see it time after time, weird little errors after major hardware upgrades, without reinstalling/resetting windows 10.

And if you do start the reset/reinstall process, choose the option which does it from the cloud. This updates your base windows files to the latest versions. So after the reset is done, you will have minimal or no windows updates to install.

Does system file checker see anything odd? i would certainly try a fresh win10 install before giving up

sfc /scannow = No errors
chkdsk = No errors

Based on errors in Event Viewer, I'm still leaning towards a software issue. Perhaps a Win10 install might provide a clearer picture. I have done a re-installation of the game with no success.

From what I understand Corsair ram doesn't play nice with AMD.

The last time I used Corsair ram it didn't play nice with Intel either lol..
ive found that they just need a bit extra voltage, like every set of theirs ive ever used needed extra.

try upping your ram voltage .05v

Corsair ram! I have heard the same also, only after I purchased those sticks. I've heard some say you can adjust the memory voltage and then it will cooperate. One thing is certain: They sure are purdy lights glowing all the time. That's definitely going to get old after awhile.
Thanks for the input folks.

yup, its worth a shot. should be enough if you do have them set at 2133.
Ok, DRAM set @ 1.25V , 2133mhz.... Well we are getting closer. This time it actually entered into game and ask if I wanted to load in Safe, Recommended, Stay in same. Then the computer restarted. Curious as to which one needs to tweaked more?

for what its worth these random restarts and or bsods in my experience are 90% unstable memory situations. Getting a new setup and seeing what speed and timings work....And add in the fact different bios revisions might play well with one speed and timing, the next one might not. We see these threads all the time

try running one stick of ram at a time and report back once you have tested both sticks separately

try that^^^

then try bumping the vsoc too, .05v

Sorry I haven't responded earlier, had to address other issues pertaining to life. "Pendragon1" : Would that be the VDDCR SOC voltage? My Bios does not show VSOC Voltage. "Hititquitit": I have a storage Drive which store a games, pics, music etc... and I suppose I could load 10 on it, but the game just loaded up and is running "shaders" as I type. Go figure that out! Shaders 64% complete. The only thing I've done since last contact we you folks is I downloaded Chipset and up dated BIOS to the latest. I didn't have time to do any testing yesterday, but it is running now. I'll keep you Posted on how this SAGA turns out. Thanks again for everyones input!

yeah i would assume thats it. its naming varies between makers and i cant remember what it says in my asus b450 bios. i'll check when i get home this aft.

+1

I recently upgraded a family member's PC to a 5800X on an ASUS B550 Prime with 16GB of Corsair DDR4-3200 RAM. There was instability at 3200 with the rated timings until I bumped the SOC up a little (I don't remember what the voltage ended up being, maybe 1.05?).
ive seen .9v to 1v at stock, depending on ram speeds. i have mine set at 1.075 for my 3400 to be 100%.

Upgrade to latest GA BIOS for your motherboard, earlier AGESA revisions had tons of problems with blue and black-screen reboots. Those were most common at idle, not playing a game, but still worth a shot.

The "SoC" on Ryzen is the I/O and memory controller which is housed on a completely separate chip on the same substrate, built on the 12nm process to save cost. It has its own power settings, thus the SoC settings in your BIOS.

Yes, both AMD and Intel can gain memory stability by bumping the voltage for the memory controller.

If you are going beyond XMP profile, you will probably end up with a voltage bump to both the memory controller and the RAM.
