Running an e6300 passively... possible?

Will it be possible to run an e6300 or e6600 passively if I undervolt it?

Note that the case does not have case fans.
This has worked well for the systems in my sig, but the CPUs have each a TT XP-120 with 12cm fan@1300rpm.

I certainly will not be overclocking, but I would like to keep stock speed.

It is possible to run it passively even if you don't undervolt it. Get a scythe heatsink and leave the fan off. If you have good airflow in the case, you might be fine.

I would say yes if you use a big enough heatsink and had good airflow through the case. otherwise most likely not.

The ninja is a good cooler, but how are you getting airflow without any fans? If you have a fan on your current heatsink, then that's providing the airflow or the one on your video card is, but you won't have any airflow with a passive heatsink and no case fans and a passively cooled video card.

PSU fan.... very few (if any?) have no fan,

undervolt it......

I run the Dothan in my laptop passively.... yea, I know the Conroe is dual core and all, but this thing is 90nm and with a TINY heatsink.....

slap on any damn heatsink and just undervolt and I'm sure you'll be fine....

once I get a desktop again I'll watercool it and run it fanless.... I love my silence :)

Unless you have a big ass rad, you'll still have to have a fan to move air through the rad, so you may not be as fanless as you want to be.

Ducting it to your psu would work, though not necessarily the best idea.

If you ducted cold air from the outside to a large heat sink it should work fine. You may also be able to under volt without overclocking.

i would never run any thing passive just use a low cfm 120mm fan and volt mod it to 5v even a few cfm help alot. and @ 5v most fans you wont here a thing the hdd will be louder

All gateway desktops with E6300 are passively cooled, I know because I opened one up before.

Thats because the 120mm fan in the front blows air through the heatsink. This guy wants no case fans.

nah dude, I actually run it passively.... meaning I disconnected the fan that was attached to the heatsink... literally not a single fan active on this thing... trust me, i've done the dissecction :)

I took it off b/c the fan hardly EVER spun anyway..... it would go on every 10 minutes or so for about 10 seconds and then turn off.... so i undervolted the proc, and remounted the heatsink with some AS5, and the things been prime stable ever since (I actually do overnight prime95 runs on most nights :) )

Get an all metalic case and somehow use the entire case as a heatsink. Will be a cool project to do and should be doable. My laptop doesnt have any fans. It uses the magensium alloy bottom as the heatsink :p

Zalman did this... It was expensive :).

Uhm, yeah if you run your CPU at sub 1.3v it should be FINE with a scythe ninja. Just don't overclock it.

Still a 4$ Yate loon from jab-tech is 100% silent. Run it at 5v and it's *HARD* to hear (you have to move your face right next to it). Would help a good 30% imo.

My Laptop with a Dothan@2.0ghz, 1.068v runs passively.
Both the CPU and GPU were undervolted, and the fans never run.
I have the Fortron Blue Storm 500 PSU and the 12cm fan in it barely runs. It is as good as silent.

So, the current systems in my sig really have 2 fans (one from PSU@extremely low rpm, and one 12cm fan on the XP-120 heatsink@1300rpm).

I want to get rid of the heatsink fan and only have the PSU fan.
The cases are Antec full tower cases and my home is maintained at around 70 degrees.

Otherwise, do you guys know of a 12cm fan that can do very low rpms?

I think that case was upward of $700 (more actually, IIRC).

I can attest to the Yate Loon silence. I run my computer with two of them and Zalman VF900's on my video cards and I can barely hear anything coming from my computer. Loudest fan is the PSU.

How do you run them at 5v without an attached speed regulator?

splice the +12v line of the fan into the =5v (red) of a PSU molex. The cleanest method though it to get a molex to 3pin fan adapter and move the pin from the +12v (yellow) side of the molex to the +5v side (red)

Ok, thanks!
Fan with speed regulator it is. :p

Was the fan you were recommending better than the THERMALTAKE A2018 120MM BLUE LED SMART CASE FAN .
That's the fan I have.

I am liking this http://www.svc.com/saf-s12-e1-19.html and this http://www.svc.com/sy-fan-sff21d.html.
