just a quick question to all of you that have had to rma a psu. so how many of you, and which company have you had to deal with, that made you wait over a month for your replacement?? cough...corsair... apparently there is is "high demand" for these units (hx850) therefore they are "backordered"....to me that means "we are having so many issues with these units that we cannot keep up demand for the rmas, because fresh shipments get priority (we already have your money) so you'll have to wait" now some people said i was nuts for shelling out for a new psu instead of just waiting for the "quick turnaround", i called bs and i was unfortunately very right. so if i hadnt got a new one, my system would be sitting in the corner unused for at least a month before i get the replacement. a month turnaround is just insane. obviously there are other issues and frankly i dont care. they should be shipping out equivalent or better in spec units instead of making people wait this long.

now i get an email from corsair tech support stating that itll be at least may27th before they get anything. bs. whythey offered me a tx950 as a replacement......WTF. nice going. offer me an inferior unit cuz u cant honour your damn warranty within an acceptable timeframe. corsair is really starting to slide. i really dont give a shit about factory backlogs. they chose to use this company to produce the units. thats their problem. does anyone at corsair know what "equivalent or better in specs" means??

I understand your frustration.

But, Corsair offered you a TX-950 (non-modular unit) as replacement for the HX-850, right?

The 950 is a higher watt PSU with the same connectors, just not modular.
I'd say that's equivalent or better......when did they offer it to you? Right away or recemtly.

Yes, it's disappointing because it's not the same, but I'd take that deal anytime.

I agree with Magoo. It may not have been what you wanted and that's your prerogative. Personally, I would have jumped on the TX950, especially because its also a CWT based on the DSG design.

Edit: Actually I guess I'm thinking about from the perspective of and HX750 owner. Considering the price gap, I'd be pretty pissed off being offered the TX950 if I owned the HX850.

Keep in mind Corsair like many other brands does not actually build these units. Its not like they can go down to the factory floor and say, we are out and need one, build one for me today. They deal with suppliers that build PSU's for many customers and there are production schedules etc. that are usually set for months ahead. In order to keep prices down you order your best guess at what you need for a period and you don't get bonus points for grossly over-ordering as it costs money to carry inventory. If you do cut it too thin you have to either wait for the next scheduled production run of your product or pay through the nose for a special run if the suppler can even work one in as they want to keep their factory 100% utilized building stuff for all kinds of customers. Or find another supplier who has slack in there manufacturing schedule which if they have not built your product before is really not practical.

I feel for ya. My HX850 is in to them right now too due to a rattling fan. Got the same email as you and said, "fuck it." Ordered myself a Seasonic x750 this weekend. Mmm silence.

Anyone want to buy a just-back from RMA HX850 for $150 shipped? haha

well i bitched here and on their forums. got a phone call from corsair. this time they offered up an
hx1000. so thats on its way.

yes i understand how it works. so then the formula of "equivalent or better in specifications" kicks in. this isnt the first time ive had a company do this. it just pisses me off. and in fairness, as of this post there is a replacement psu on its way.

yes the tx950 is a higher wattage. no its not the same. its from the value line.
the hx850 is supposed to be a higher end unit. better efficiency. modular cabling.
in effect the tx950 is actually a downgrade imo.
and yes sometimes bitching does work. replacement is on its way. thank you corsir for pulling through in the end.

For future reference, if any of you guys have any RMA problems you can ALWAYS PM me here, and I'll try and help out. No guarantees, of course, but I can usually help things along.

The HX750 and HX850 sales were very strong and we were sold out for a few weeks. Literally, we had none of them to sell, to ship to RMAs, etc. The TX950 is a wash, in my opinion: similar quality, slightly lower efficiency, higher wattage, than the HX850.

Glad they offered an HX1000, too.

Rogue71, let me know if you need anything.

TX isn't a value line, by the way - it's basically just the mainstream line. CX is the value line.

Thanks for the offer! I realize that you guys can't completely control your strong sales (especially wit hthe HX750 and HX850), but I just couldn't afford another 2 weeks of downtime.

Totally understandable. But there are always options - so if you have one of our products fail in the future, give me a chance to fix it if you can spare a day or so for me to respond to your PM. Usually I can help out.

Or email me at redbeard@corsair.com

That's usually faster.

thanks for the offer. and i didnt realize i could pm you about the rma. hopefully i wont need to, but if i do in the future i appreciate knowing i can ask.

stating that itll be at least may27th before they get anything.

I just realized the May 27th figure was an ETA to arrive at Corsair, not when the new units should be shipping out to customers. I'm not sure what they're doing over in the RMA dept considering on my RMA status page they haven't even entered the part # of my PSU unit or any other information.
