Hi all, I'm new around here, but it looks like the best hardware forum i've ever seen....:D

Here is my rig update:

Gaming, design, CAO
2) What's your budget? Are tax and shipping included?
1000-1100€
3) Where do you live?
France
4) What exact parts do you need for that budget? CPU, RAM, case, etc. The word "Everything" is not a valid answer. Please list out all the parts you'll need.
MB, CPU, RAM, GC

(first look: CPU: Intel i7 2600K (bulk)
GPU: Asus GTX580 Matrix Platinum 2
MB: Asus Maximus IV Extreme Rev.3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1600 CL9 8Go)

5) If reusing any parts, what parts will you be reusing? Please be especially specific about the power supply. List make and model.
SC: Asus Xonar D2X
PSU: Corsair HX620
CPU Cooler: Noctua C12P-SE14
Case: Cosmos 1000, 2 x Noctua NF-P14, 1 x NF-P12, 1 x NF-S12

6) Will you be overclocking?
Nop
7) What size monitor do you have and/or plan to have?
Dell U2410 (19200x1200)
8) When do you plan on building/buying the PC?
End of August
9) What features do you need in a motherboard? RAID? Firewire? Crossfire or SLI support? USB 3.0? SATA 6Gb/s? eSATA? Onboard video? etc.
eSata, SATA 6Gb/s, USB 3, UEFI bios, all fan connector PWM, fancy features....;), Bluetooth
10) Do you already have a legit and reusable/transferable OS key/license? If yes, what OS? Is it 32bit or 64bit?
Win 7 X64 Pro

Thanks for your replies....:)

What resolution are you running?

If this a pure gaming rig drop that 2600K down to the 2500K as there is no difference in the performance. Next there really isn't any reason for that wicked high end mobo either. If you want to spend extra on a board I would do $200 tops especially, since you are not doing SLI/Crossfire or LN2. Ram probably could be dropped down as well. Doesn't make a major difference in performance.

About any Z68 in general if you aren't using the on die GPU with the CPU or SRT feature I get a P67 unless you want to burn money.

What PSU are you running all this on?

Welcome to the forum!

To better assist you in your rig update, please read through The Sticky and post back using the included template. You'll get better (and more) responses that way.

You've chosen very high end parts. By giving us a budget we can come up with different ways to improve your system. That may involve dropping to a cheaper (but still very good) motherboard and including an SSD, for example.

Thanks for your advises....;)

I forget to mention that it's not a rig dedicated for gaming (therefore, i like to be able to play my games on highest settings....), but i do a lot of graphic design (Photoshop etc)...
Regarding my res, i'm with a U2410, so it's 1920x1200.
My PSU is a corsair HX620, which is enough i think....;)

EDIT: Oooops, not fast enough....
Thanks i'll give a shot at the sticky.

For those parts, my budget is around 1000-1100€ (yep, i live in France.....;)), which is around 1 400 $ (but please note that regarding computer parts, for us it's roughly 1€=1$....)

Ho and this rig is meant to survive a few years....;)

I think i'm gonna buy local 'cause some store in Paris are cheaper than the internet...:D

(Btw I'm reading the sticky post right now, so i'll update and detail what i really need....)

Copy and paste this into your first post and answer each question under it:

Nice. Is there a site you normally use for buying parts? I know nothing about the cost of parts in France, so it would be easier trying to piece together a build that way. Maybe you can stay with the 2600K, but the mobo is total over kill.

No overclocking? Wow well that does change a few things. You just need a regular 2600 in that case if you need the hyperthreading. Really even makes that Maximus even more worthless. Only reason for a P67 board is support for overclocking mostly and mutli gpu. None of which you are doing, so its a massive waste of money in that case. I would just go for a more tricked out H67 board that has USB 3.0 and Sata III. The Maximus has a lot of features, but you will hardly be taking advantage of any of them.

Hmmmm for the 2600, i've found a 2600K bulk which is 50€ cheaper than the 2600, so it's why i've kept that one (instead, i'll obviously use a regular one).... For the mb, if i tend to choose ROG, it's because they have many fan connector (and all PWM nowadays...), dunno if non OC and gaming ones have cached up..... Yep, i've forget to add that i want full control over the cooling system, to be as silent as possible....;)

Thats just odd on the pricing. If it works then thats good.

I really do not see it as being worth a $200-300 premium over a regular board if all you want to control is your fans better get a nice fan controller that you can put into one of your drive bays.

Anyway this is what I came up with:

2600K - 259,90 €
ASUS H67 - 119,90 €
ASUS GTX 580 RoG - 489,90 €
Crucial M4 128GB SSD - 179,99 €
Corsair 2x4GB DDR3 - 49,99 €

Total says 1 099,68 €, not sure if that includes the VAT or not. By not having that motherboard you want you can actually get a SSD in the budget, which is more then worthwhile. For around the same price of that H67 you can get a low end P67, which you might as well do, since you have a 2600K. Never know if you may want to overclock to 4.8 GHz.

It's bulk so...

Yep i've thought about a controler, but i've never found one that can handle the fan's speed regarding some rules (defining the low speed temp, and the high one)....If you know one....I'll be pleased to save 100€....:)

I don't know much about fan controllers, but I am 100% sure there is one out there that will meet your needs, while not needing any motherboard to do it instead. Take a look around is all. Keep in mind those 580s dump a lot of heat out and you will need to get it out of the system, since that 580 doesn't take it out the back of the card. While having the system fans low the GPU or CPU fan may turn up in order to keep them cooler as a result and that would be more noise.

Yep i've considered that, i'm trying to have the best compromise between silence & cooling (yeah quit hard...). But the cooler on the asus is very good according to the reviews, then my cosmos can handle the heat i think.. (My 8800 GTX has its stock blower, but..... i think it can only be better....). Looking for a controller....

Those Cosmos cases were really meant for water cooling, so I don't think it is the best at handling air flow for lower temps. Did you put in every fan you could in that?

2 x 14cm + 1 x 12 cm for the exhaust (negative pressure....), 1 x 12 cm for the intake, and maybe another one if i can get the Cosmos 1010's panels from a member of the forum... (hope so, 'cause that case is really lacking from this fan).
If it's not enough, i might buy a Corsair 600T....

Thanks, looking quit good in fact, the only question: will it let my case's door close?.....:D

I don't see any reason why you couldn't mount the controller back a bit more in the drive bay to make the proper room for it. I think it can work that way.

You aren't going to notice a difference between that H67 board and those more expensive versions. I have heard ASUS has been having issues with their P67 line up anyway. You may want to look elsewhere for reliability.

Well due to your UEFI requirement, that basically means only Asus and MSI mobos should be looked at. Maybe AsRock if you're fine with their two year warranties. Since the 2600K is cheaper, might as well give you the option to OC later on. So that rules out the H67 chipset and leaves us with the P67 or Z68 chipsets.

Go with this MSI mobo:
