It's that time of the year, I've scooped up all my newegg gift certificates, and I'm ready to build a new machine under $1000. Please review my current layout for any issues, make improvements and suggestions where needed. My other question is, do you think this rig would support another GTX 260?

COMBO:
E8400 Wolfdale 3.0 GHz
ASUS P5Q Pro = 274.98
COMBO:
Antec 900
Antec NeoPower 550W = 169.98
---------------------------------
MSI 260 GTX (192 SP) = 199.99
Western Digital Caviar 640GB 7200 RPM = 74.99
G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 = 49.99
Samsung DVD/CD Combo SATA = 24.99
XIGMATEK 120mm Rifle Cooler = 36.99
XIGMATEK Retention Bracket = 8.49
Acer 22" LCD = 169.99
------------------------------------
Total Price = $1010

######################################
1/2/09 EDIT:
Okay I ended up dropping the case/psu combo for:
Cooler Master Centurion = 59.99
Corsair 750W = 119.99 (20.00 MIR) (Free Shipping)
I changed PSU's for future proofing.

I also dropped the HDD for:
Seagate Barracuda 7200 500Gb = 64.99

It's 140GB less but double the cache. (32mb). Plus the combo deal on the mobo/cpu has dropped, so my new total is up to: $1062.38

why the hate for the 900?

I don't hate the Antec 900. I just don't think $100 is a good price for it considering that the Coolermaster RC-590 and RC-690 cases are cheaper yet offer just as good cooling, equal quality construction, and a much larger area with work with than the Antec 900. If the Antec 900 was was $60, I'd totally recommend it. But above that, no it isn't worth it.

the best price I've seen the 900 at was 80 @ MC, but your comment about the larger work area has peaked my interest, also some of the newegg comments about the HD/optical plastic mounts being flimsy, or is there no truth in that?

I just built my new rig in an Antec 900... I didn't run into any space issues but cable management in the 900 is a bear. There's really no clean way to get cables from the PSU to various spots in the case without a lot of time spent or some surgery. And with that window on the side of the 900 you know you want you case to look clean.

Have fun with the E8400... they're great, hopefully you get an E0. I built my box around one of these and have had a lot of fun with overclocking it. I currently have it running at 4.05GHz and only 50ºC in IBT (no one call BS on me yet... I'll post results this weekend once I can stress it some more... currently letting it crunch on Memtest for a day to be sure the RAM is stable OC'd).

The rest of the specs look good.. be sure to post pics when you're done.

Shucks, no Combo Deals anymore. Prices on some items have gone up also. No more Combo Deal builds already.

if you are stilling buying that Seagate, make sure you buy it today

starting tomorrow, they will only carry 3 year warranty
