The RIAA has launched a website where students (and other dastardly criminals) can go for one stop lawsuit settlement. Paying your RIAA settlement has never been easier, apply today!

On the site, students whose universities have agreed to turn over student names to the RIAA and users whose ISPs have agreed to turn over subscriber names to the RIAA can apply for a settlement by entering their case number, and even pay their settlement online, which the RIAA promises will be represent "a substantial discount" from what they would have had to settle for before this campaign launched.

Why is the US legal system not acting on this? This is extortion.

I don't see it as extortion, but I did throw up into my mouth a little bit when I read it.

Click the link "How to download music legally". It goes to another website that bitching about P2P! Regular people are bitching about it now!

From thew musicunited.com site linked from that RIAA page:

Damon Dash, Executive Producer, Roc-A-Fella Records: "At the ROC, we work for ours. Taking food out of our artists' mouths is despicable, disrespectful, cowardly and dishonorable."

...as he pours a $500 of champagne over some nude bitches.

This one cracked me up.

If the record companies negotiated a settlement with the P2P service I used, can they still sue me?
Yes. You are still responsible for your actions and the harm that you have caused.

What F**k'n harm??

I wish they made fines and speeding tickets this easy.....

looks like it was already DDoS'd off the face of the earth... like it should be

Half of Hip-Hop these days is about dealing and crime...They can shoot people and sell crack but I cant download the song about it illegaly...l o l

This is the funniest damn talkback I've seen on this site.

I wonder how many times they get hacked
I was thinking the same thing... I'll bet they get ddos'd LOL.

Course, the RIAA has had a website all along, so whatever.
The RIAA site has been haxx0red numerous times, a fair bit ago. At this juncture it's probably more secure than DHS.gov.

I just hope I can pay with AMX so I get 2% of my extortion back at the end of the year. That's how I stick it to the.. whatever they are.

I would never settle. Id spend the money I was being sued for on a attorney who doesnt get paid unless I win. Then I would say that I live in a house of 6 and I have wifi and neighbors even use my wifi and that I never downloaded music it must have been someone else. And, if the judge in the case has any legal background at all, without a reasonable doubt would have to play a big part there. My 12 year old son could have done it, who knows, but I wouldnt pay them a dime. When I see Brittney Spears looking like white trash again and out of money, then I will think, hey I am doing these people harm.... oh wait, shes a bad example... But you get the drift.

Stephan Jenkins, Lead Singer of Multi-Platinum Group Third Eye Blind: "Burning CD’s is like an arranged marriage and the artists are the shot-gun brides. When nobody asks your permission, things tend to go bad."

This would be under the "What the artists have to say" heading... I would assume that means "what the artists have to say about pirating music".

Burning a mix cd is within fair use is it not? Not piracy at all in reality.

I still don't understand why they get their panties in a bunch over 1s and 0s.

Besides, music artists don't make money of CD sales, they make it off of concert ticket sales

OK so now they just have a site that is a revolving door assfucking? Only in the good ol' US of A.

I really hope people aren't dumb enough to fork over dough they probably don't really have to a bunch of extremely rich, greedy extortionists who refuse to change with the times.

I can't believe this. This just seriously has to be a fucking joke.
p2plawsuits.com??

More like p2pextortions.biz!

I don't see how this is legal in ANY way, and doesn't fall afoul of the RICO statue(s). The very most the RIAAs blood sharks have done to direct someone to this site is to get an IP number. They have not proven in a court of law that a person identified by the IP via a panty waist (more like waste ;)) ISP was that actual person that did the 'infraction'. Nor have they proven either that that IP has actually downloaded the files in question. For example, there was the case of a Uni professor that was collared by the RIAA/Media Sentry's trolling for hash matches for simply having research documents (that somehow matched some alleged 'illegal' MP3s). Then there's the question of whether any actual HARM has been done - nothing has been physically taken in the case of p2p swapping. How about the Santangelo case - when will they give in the towel? They left Patty, only to go after children (how entriely scumbag-tastic?!) - I hope the kid(s) win and give the RIAA a little ass-raping in return.

You want people to stop swapping? Easy answer, dump the f*cking DRM already, AND drop the price in 1/2 or less. We are getting an inferior product (very lossy, the DRM, can't share with friends ala a physical CD). A full album's worth of tracks is no cheaper than an actual physical CD (sometimes more expensive), yet a consumer is worse off - no disc, no case, no liner notes and the other goodies. I could understand have the same/similar prices if they were offered in un-DRM-encumbered lossless formats, ie: full CDA/WAV format, or at least in something like FLAC. But alas, we're not.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again...ANY artist worth a hill of beans can be WAYYYY better off by ditching the *AA/record company cartels. If they're talented in any way, and had half a brain, they can record their own stuff, release their own albums, deal with their own digital downloads/websites. They could keep far more of the profits in-house, not hand the majority of $$ over to the record company. Rather than RELYING on touring to make a living, which is the case with a lot of the artists they days.

Case in point: Fat Mike (Burkett) of NOFX. Say what you want about them and the typical 3-chord punk but they're a (pretty good) model of how to deal with the industry. Been in the biz for ~22 years, touring quite consistently. Somewhere in the early 90's he (Mike) started Fat Wreck Chords [as a way to release their own EPs independent of Epitaph for their LP/full albums], and now owns at least 2 other labels as well (Honest Dons/Pink & [something]). They pay their artists FAR better royalties than the *AAs, they have decent retail space (anything form the indy shops to alot of big box places like worst buy). They have digital downloads (itunes directly though, 3rd party 192k unDRMd MP3 @ downloadpunk.com ranging from $7-10) Vinyl sales for those in the dark ages still, and physical CDs available for generally $10 - goto any big box retailer, $13-15+ each. Big plus IMO, when the RIAA uses their name in press releases, they fire back and say "f*ck off, we're nothing to do with you!" Not a bad job by a guy who's often drunk or high on Vicodin (or both) when on stage :p.

Enough BS, I could keep going on for days about lousy subjects like this, and my (and your eh?) brain would bloody well explode. Damn I need a joint, sobriety leads to yapping for me :p:p.

I don't understand why the artists get so pissed off. They make practically nothing off of CD sales. If anyone is fucking the artists over it's the damn record companies. You don't see them complaining about only get a nickel every time someone buys an overpriced $20 cd.

Fucking fucktards.

If anyone cares, here's an interesting article written by courtney love that sheds some light on who's really ass fucking the "artists". (When they write their own songs again, I'll call them artists)

http://archive.salon.com/tech/feature/2000/06/14/love/print.html

Even explains how the RIAA made some moves to fuck over ther "artists" back then. Now that the performers are screwed they turn to us.

There are probably clauses in their contract that force them to be the poster children for their label.
