RF Remote for Hidden Components

I just finished my Theater setup, and I have all of the components hidden in a closet behind the wall. I need to find a remote that will work via RF to control all components, the cable DVR, HTPC and stereo. Is there a RF reciever that will work, and will the Harmony work for this as well?

Another option is to setup up an IR repeater system. Radio Shack sells them. I got one for my dad to control his stereo from out by the pool 100 feet away. Works great.

It's the one that looks like a pair of pyramids.

While the IR repeater system can be very effective it only solves one problem, getting inside your closet.

My personal favorite is the Pronto series from Philips with the add-on RF converter.

You can buy a grayscale unit or a full color unit display wise, both work well. What I like in particular about these remotes is they can be programmed on your computer to do just about anything you could possibly want with your Theater system.

The macro features are only limited by your imagination, not to what the remote maker thinks you should have. The units can either learn a command from your current remote or you can work from within the remote’s own data base or, places like remotecentral.com have thousands of individual component files and thousands of complete system files submitted by users. Any of those pre make files can be modified or customized to your personal taste.

Fell free to get artistic as each screen can support both photo icons as well as background pictures. There are many free tools to create custom buttons and again, thousands of pieces of ready made artwork to choose from.

In case you missed it, I love mine. Once you get the idea of how to program one you will lay awake at night thinking of ways to change things. I should add that while programming on screen each function is testable in real time with your theater system.

check out the logitech harmony line. there top end remotes offer RF and I think they either come with RF to IR extenders as well as have the option of adding on more. Check them out at Best Buy then by them at newegg to save some serious cash.
 
I have been checking out the harmony 1000, I just didn't know if it would work for this application or not. So far everything that I have read says that it will work fine for this. I just need to find someone that is actually doing this type of situation.
 
all of your components are RF? Everything I own is IR. That said the harmony 1000 should work if you use all the FR to IR adapters (sounds like you will need some extras)
 
no everything is IR, I have everything in a media closet behind our main TV wall, this way no one sees any components. I'm just trying to find the best way to control the components from the living room.
I was told that the Harmony 1000 could do this, but haven't been able find documentation to this.
