Restocking Fee BS

I was of the opinion that loyality to a particular business accounted for something! I just got off the phone with Monarch.com to see about returning my unopened retail AMD processor. Reasons: Day after ordering, dropped from $215.00 retail down to $150.00 OEM. I called next day no problem and no mention of restocking fee. My problem is I had already spent more than $500 wanted to spend another $500 (I realize in the grand picture that isn't much) plus the fact I had supported their business in the past even when a few dollars higher. Bottom line $35.00 to return. I decided it wasn't worth the trouble and cancelled rest of order, end of story. Maybe I'm looking at this all wrong; any comments?

Usually, major processor price cuts are announced beforehand, so it always pays to do your research before dropping money on a CPU.

Very true. Have you tried talking to them? I mean, I'm sure you have but you should get someone on the phone and tell them you are a loyal customer and how you would like to keep shopping with them and this really bothers you. Whatever you do, don't get mad and don't be a smartass.

If you play your cards right, you might get the RS fee waived and get admonished that next time you won't get a waiver.

I just did an RMA for refund on a Dlink DWL-G630 at Newegg. the card would lose signal, and downloads would error out (very bad, as this system's primary use is to download files, and be an expendable system(school work, working on potentially dangerous systems (i.e. customer's infected computers)).

It was going to have a $5.35 restocking fee. The card costed 33 + 5 shipping; and I'd spend another 5 shipping it back. I called Newegg up, and asked to get the restocking fee waivered, as I planned on buying a new, better, wifi card as soon as I'd found one with an Atheros Chipset(I've always had good luck with these). The lady did, and I shipped it back. I'm out $10 on the deal...but not $15.

It never hurts to ask them if it can be dropped. When the item hasn't even been opened, there should -not- be a restocking fee, IMHO.

Kinda wished i did that because I bought an AMD64 3400+ and A Extreme volcano 12 and didn't realize that the volcano was for AXP not AMD64. I didn't open it but still have to pay a restocking fee. I agree though. If it is still inclosed then no restocking fee but the company won't know till they get it. They should refund it after they get the package though.
