What are your 6990 temps under normal gaming?

Yeah I'd be interested in knowing that as well. My 6990 is running around 77-81C at 950Mhz on the cores bitcoin mining with the side panel off but I don't have the newer AP181 fans. I have a new 2600k build going into an FT02 I ordered from Amazon today so I'll be able to test temps in comparison this weekend.

Have you checked your temps with the side panel on with same load? Pulling that panel off probably disrupts the intended airflow inside the case...though that 6990 COULD potentially be putting out a higher heat load then the fans can pull out.

I'm getting ready to buy and have spent the last few days reading up on various parts and think I have decided on a build. I think everything will fit but thought I'd toss this out to people who have the Silverstone case and see if anything jumps out.

Case Silverstone FT02B-W
Motherboard Asus P8Z68-V PRO
Video card MSI N580GTX Lightning
Power Supply Corsair AX1200
CPU i7-2600k 3.4ghz
Memory Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 2x 4 gigs
Hard Drive WD Velociraptor 450gb sata6
Smasung blue ray drive

Thanks for any input!

Honestly, I would go for a new sata6 SSD rather than a HDD, the new SSD's are a lot faster.

Agreed, go with a 128GB SSD (or 64GB if cost is an issue) something like the Crucial M4 would be a good choice. Then get a 1TB data drive, something like a Samsung F3 would fit the bill.

Other than that, your PSU is overkill unless you plan to go SLI in the future, Perhaps go for a Corsaor HX series PSU and put the money saved towards an SSD.

Or get those ebay Intel Edge re-selling G2 drives for lower price..:D

Ugh, feels so ghetto with two of my fans dead; the fan that I was talking about last time that was missing the contact under the switch, I replaced it with two 80mm fans I gutted from an old case, then used a 120 for the other.

Cooling is still...well it could obviously be better.

Yeah I mainly got the power supply with the idea of adding more later on. I want to start doing some water cooling as well but I have yet to overcome my aversion of mixing water with electronics :)

temps seems fine, the middle card is always 4-5C higher than the other 2

i have some rubber feet in between the cards to make sure there is some air space in between and the middle case fan is on high to drive more air into the cards

I have seen people posting photos of their FT02 builds, so thought I might as well add mine to the bunch.

I know, it is not perfect, but it turned out quite alright in my opinion. I would like to sleeve the cables from the two high rpm Gentle Typhoons, but I haven't taken the time and money yet.

PS: no, my two graphics cards have fine temps this way ;)

I'm surprised you were able to get those fat and stiff PSU cables around the back. Did you experience any issues with the side panel getting pushed out a little?

I don't know if you've heard of Bitcoin mining or not but would you care to test your load temps with something like GUIMiner or at least Furmark so that I'd have an idea how hot a Trifire setup would get with 6970's in the FT02?

I have a 6990 in mine now but the card exhausts hot air out both ends so it doesn't cool as well as a regular 6970 with a reference blower style cooler in the FT02.

No, it is actually not a problem. When doing the cabling, I got inspired by a build posted earlier in this thread. The fives cables (24 pin and four pcie) are evened out as much as possible, so they take up as little space in the back as possible. The rest of my cabling look a bit messy due to a load of molex cluttering. I will take a pic later today or perhaps tomorrow :)

Man, I want this case but I have the lian li a05b. Any reason why I should get it? Any cheap place to get it? Could it fit the h100?

i like how the board sits at 90 degree's if i could buy that case i definatly would

Yeah a pic would be great. I was trying to route it on the backside but I got discouraged:rolleyes:

Just make sure the one you get has the ap181 fans with the honeycomb grills.

Honeycomb grills are from the older version (FN181) fans, AP181s have counter-spun grills. Also, certain FT02 revisions had issues with how securely the drive cages attached to the case.

Yes why??? My understanding is the Air Penetrator fans do not have the honeyomb and are preferred for cooling. I haven't seen a great comparison, but silversone really seems to push the non-honeycomb ones as better at cooling.

Like more buzzing sound? Is it because of the fan or is it because of the grill design?

No buzzing. Basically, you can run AP181's on the low setting of the integrated fan controllers and achieve the same cooling as the high setting of FN181's. The low setting (700rpm) is pretty quiet, but I have mine plugged into the mobo and turned down to 550-600rpm via software.

Oh that is actually good to know. So its not about the grill design, but its the fans themselves. Thanks!

There is a video on SS's website showcasing the improvement of using the counter-spun grills as opposed to the honeycomb grills. Basically, normal fans blow air the most around the perimeter and in the center there is very little movement in comparison. The counter-spun grill evens this effect out so that the same amount of air is pushing out over the entire area of the fan. Check out the video, it's pretty impressive the improvement there is and it helps understand whats going on a lot better then a worded explanation.

Thanks a bunch guys. I was about to post that up as well. Now to find one for cheap =/. I feel bad to buying a new case for no reason .

I bought AP181 fans to replace my FN181 fans in my FT02 and I found the noise the AP181s make to be highly annoying, even on low. I ended up returning them to Amazon :(

In my experience I get better temps anyway on my FN181s with the grills off.

hey guys, Are there any mods I should Know about for this case? How to improve anything or make it look better other than painting it?

I'm working on one now but running some tests to see if it makes a difference. I'll be posting the mod and results shortly :)

My small mods for aesthetics and silence:
- Silverstone black PCI slot covers.
- Black metal fan grill for the exhaust fan (I used the one that came with Corsair AX850 PSU).
- Sleeved all unsleeved cables, improved cable management with wire ties and wire harnesses.
- USB 3.0 front panel kit directly from Silverstone.
- Quieter exhaust fan (I used an Akasa Apache PWM).
- Software control via mobo headers for AP181s and the exhaust fan (or use a fan controller).
- Extra acoustic foam.
- Removed the plastic drive cages and suspended HDD (I used a NoiseMagic NoVibes III).
- Removed plastic clips that secure the top cover to the case. Much easier to remove now.

Do you have pictures? I am interested to see all of it. By the way guys, how do you guys move the case around. How do you carry it?
