Reserator 1 V2 Mod question

Has anyone ever found a way and / or actually modded this thing so the the returning warm water goes in at the top of the Reserator tower instead of at the bottom? Obviously it would have a better chance of cooling the water going in at the top.

If so am curious if it made much of a difference in cooling temps. And if there is a link or pics or anything I sure would be interested.
 
Why dont you unscrew the top, stick the return line in there, and then check the temps?
 
Seems to me that I've seen an extension added to the return line on the inside of the tank (much like many reservoirs have) which would do essentially the same thing.
Dunno if it made all that much difference though.
 
I guess I should have said in my post that I don't own one yet. ;)

Has been in the back of my mind as a first timer water cooling kit. But it seems now that some reviews show the Zalman 9500 cooling a bit better on air unless I read something wrong.

So I am running what if scenarious through my mind and getting info.

Hmm, so running that tube up to the top had little effect or temps huh?

How about that funky fan kit they made for it. Does that help or is it just Snake Oil?
 
ive been running a reserator 1 plus for a few months now. overall i am pleased with its performance. ive got a x2 4200 and an 7800gtx in my loop both using the blocks that come with the zalman. my idle temps are 33 for the cpu and 38 for the gpu. under load the temps go up to 40 cpu and 51 for the gpu. my ambient in my office is 24.
the only mods i did with the zalman was to ditch the blue silicone tubing and the flow indicator thing. the tubing gave off a foul smell and i thought the flow indicator was unnecessary and probably restricted flow a bit. i replaced the tubing with 15 feet of 5/16-7/16 tubing i got from home depot for 5 bucks. now i can see the water and it doesnt smell. i used all the tubing so my loop length is 15 feet but its nice to have the reserator off in the corner not near my desk.
next time i will probably just do the component thing and keep everything internal but for now, and being a water cooling virgin, i thought this was a good start.

I appreciate the info. Those temps of yours sound actually pretty good. I am sort of where you were I guess. Thinking about giving water cooling a try with an easy all in one kind of system. Not that keen on the looks of the Reserator 2 though. That looks like another big piece of something to take up space.

OH, can you hook that thing up to a molex so it will go on and off with the comp? Or is it a corded transformer type of affair?
 
yes you can build or buy a relay kit for the pump. i just keep mine on all the time. the replacement pumps are $16 at sharka if it ever craps out. if it does crap out i will probably buy a 12V dc pump and just stick it in my case.
 
There isnt alot of pressure in the Reserator's pump, so I dont know if it would be good to have it pushing the water up an extension inside the resevoir, if you had a more powerful pump, then maybe it would be OK.
Zalman will send you another pump if theres a problem with yours, I have a 'spare' sitting at home.
(Reserators been running for 2+ yrs @ 24/7 with no problems, dual Opty rig with NB block, cpu's are 34'c and 32'c and the mobo is 35'c)
