Requirements for running 720p video?

I am trying to make a budget PC that is capable of running 720p video out to my TV which is connected via S-Video.

I am considering either AMD or Intel, no real preference either way. The processors in question are:

Socket 775 is at the end of its life cycle and I wouldn't suggest getting one at this stage.

X2 240 is about as fast as Pentium e5200 in most cases.

I concur with lt_shiro: The X2 240 is the better buy.

With that said, that Celeron dual core CPU will be enough for 720P content. In fact, a dual-core Atom 330 CPU will be enough for 720P content IIRC.

It's completely pointless to send 720p if you are connecting via s-video as it cannot even come close to sending that resolution... why are you connecting via s-video? Is it a limitation of your TV?
