Salvaging parts from older builds and I found problems with sporadic boot issues with an existing powersupply and needing a replacement.

The system is running XP, a P4 3.0 with 1 sata hard drive, dvd burner, currently running a Geforce 4 AGP (might upgrade to a better AGP card), 1 gb DDR 400 ram, and 1 120mm fan, all shoehorned into an HP mATX case. I have plans to cut the back out of the case to allow a full sized ATX powersupply, and strap it in place. I believe the motherboard needs a P4 connector, and I'm not sure how much power I actually need. Temps dont seem bad, I've got room for another fan or two if necessary.

What powersupplies should I be considering? Are there any concerns with a more modern powersupply possibly not having the p4 connector?

Wasn't the p4 connector the 4pin CPU power that has recently been updated to 8 pins in the past couple years? Pretty sure it is, you should be fine with any modern psu, but you should post a pic of the power supply's sticker you have now, then we could tell you better.

FSP or Sparkle 350W/450W units are more than adequate for such systems.

The cheapest PSU I can recommend at the moment would be the Corsair CX430 V2.
