Hey people,

Easter seems like a good time to replace my desktop that's now more than 3 years old.
I'd particularly like to play Empire: Total War at 1680x1050 with the bells and whistles, and other moderately demanding games in the future. I'm also likely to use it for watching movies/TV, but no photo editing, rendering etc.

I have a budget of about £600 but will stretch to around £700 if it would be worthwhile.

I already have 4x1GB of DDR2 667 which I will use for now, so no RAM needed. I also already have: HDDs, case, DVD drive.
So I need: CPU, Mobo, GPU and probably a new PSU.

Oh, and I have lots of time for modding and overclocking, so components should be geared towards that.

At the moment i'm thinking:

E8400 or 8500
DFI LanParty JR P45 T2RS (http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/DFI-...x16)-DDR2-1066-667-800-SATA-II-SATA-RAID-uATX)
GTX260 216 - Which brand/model? I'm thinking 55nm.
Corsair VX550

Any suggestions? Thanks muchly in advance :)

Your current part choices are pretty good. Just go with the cheapest GTX260 with lifetime warranty you can find and you'll be set. Considering how old your setup is, you might want to go with a quad-core CPU if isn't too much in price over the E8400.
