Hey,

I'm looking to replace my 2408wfp with an IPS monitor. I've been looking at the ST2220T and u2410.

I've leaning moreso towards the ST2220T because of its affordability compared to the u2410 but does anyone know how the ST2220T display compares to my 2408wfp? The low price makes me kind of skeptical.

Thanks!

Out of curiousity, why are you replacing your 2408wfp?

I have three and like them a lot, but one is the first revision and has noticeably more input lag than the other two so I want to get another second revision 2408wfp to replace it.

I'm interested to hear the response to this - basically, is there a go-to 24 inch IPS display that works for gaming too?

With all of the 16:10 IPS displays prepare to see blacks become grey, most of them have 50% less contrast and aggressive AG coating which makes whites/light colors look dirty/grainy.

The only major advantage of the 16:10 IPS panels would be the lower input lag over, +sRGB color accuracy support if you don't the Wide Gamut of the original 2408wfp and wider viewing angles.

The Dell ST2220T Review has a Glossy screen and very good image quality. Default color accuracy is better than the 2408wfp, this would be a good replacement for gaming, though it is a little small.

The terrible IPS quality control should also be considered, if there is nothing wrong with the 2408, IMO it certainly isn't worth paying for a screen that will most likely come with tinting+back light bleeding and worse image quality.

Ah, I see.

I'm looking to replace my 2408wfp because my friend wants/needs a high quality display for his work

And what do you mean by IPS quality control? Are the panels notoriously inconsistent in quality or something?

LG makes all of the IPS panels featured in NEC/Dell/Asus/Eizo/HP models and their QC is terrible.

u2410 is rather pricey. there's a nice rebate going on for the ST2220T for ~$220 righ tnow

i also have a dell 2408 wfp, they were great lcd,s , and dell sold a ton of them....i still have mine, and it still works great.....i have looked at many monitors, and its hard to find one better in the price range.....i bought a viewsonic ips where the cheaper ones came out, and its still not as good as the 2408 wfp ....if someone can suggest a better one, i am too interested than the 2408

Don't worry about certain opinions around here.

Samsung's version of IPS called PLS is far worse in quality control at this time.

The new Dell U2412M eIPS screen, for example is similar in contrast to the 2408WFP and did not have the initial quality control issues with tinted panels, etc...

What you can expect as an advantage with a newer IPS screen is far less input lag, so your mouse will seem more responsive than it did with the 2408WFP. It is also going to be less over saturated and likely more accurate in color than the 2408WFP, as it was wide gamut with a sub-par sRGB mode.

If glossy is usable for your viewing environment the ST2220T is a fine choice. Due to its small size and glossy finish, it has a tight dot pitch which makes text sharp, so if 21.5" is ok for you, nothing wrong with this screen.

Because it's S-IPS and not the newer H-IPS and eIPS variety, blacks don't get lighter off-angle, they just turn a bluish-violet, which is preferable to me.

Keep in mind though, it is 1080p so you'll have to deal with some virtual loss of vertical real estate.

IMHO the u2410 is more worth it if you can get it on sale.
