I recently had an EVGA 6600 agp card die on me. The card has two blown caps. Like to know if the caps are replaceable and where to go to have it done? Dont wont to do it myself since i have no soldering iron and no experience in replacing caps.

Goodnight sweet prince. Man let it go. let it gooooooo...... Time for a 5870!!!

hey, i cant. on a tight budget. like shoestring. getting a replacement from evga since it was under warranty but incase it dont get back to them i like to repair it.

They are replaceable. (you just need to google the numbers uptop)
Use a desoldering gun.
and a soldering gun.

it's been done before, on [H].
PSU reviews (of the highest caliber) do this to some PSU parts to get their numbers (and therefore, a hint at the real quality).

Why not send it back under warranty? If you have not soldered before, I would not even consider attempting it. It would probably be easier just to buy a new video card.

The replacement card(6200 512mb) is less than the 6600(256mb) that i have. The rep said that the specs are about the same just a little more favored for the 6200. There are no longer any cards in the 7 or 8 series lineup. They had a few last yr but must have decided to drop them.

VERY easy to desolder and resolder, even if you've never used a soldering iron before. This can be done with a cheapo $10 iron and some flux+solder. Practice on a similar component off some old circuit board you don't care about.

Get em' here. - http://www.digikey.com/

These look to match up, need to check the size (Diameter) of your caps.

Someone please verify these, they look ok to me if the size is good.

Panasonic, 1500UF 6.3V, 5000 Hrs @ 105°C, $0.59 ea. - http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=P12343-ND

United Chemi-Con, 1500UF 6.3V, 5000 Hrs @ 105°C, $0.73ea. - http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=565-1881-ND

There's other brands, but these are good, I'd go with Panasonic.

Get ya a cheap soldier iron, some soldier, a broken electronic something or other and practice a bit, taking shit off, soldiering it back on. (after first reading up on it or Youtube).

WTF? Their rep is full of shit. A 6600 is three or four times better than a 6200.

Depends on which 6200, and which 6600 they were talking about.

There are a lot of different versions, and the lowest end 6600 is very close to the highest end 6200.
A mess, yes, but still true.

id have to see it to believe it a 6600 was basically a 9800xt and a 6200 was well, crap

Wrong.

There were 3 flavors of 6600.
6600gt - was roughly the performance of a 9800pro.
6600 - A good step down from the gt model. About 9600xt.
6600LE - Tuned up 6200 card.

A nicer 6200 512mb would be about the same performance as a low end 6600. They are both the exact same core NV43. In fact the only difference between a 6200 and 6600 was 4 pixel pipelines (that were often unlockable on the 6200) and 150mhz on the memory.

Mine is the plain 6600. I just as well give the card to someone else and let them do the replacement caps for me. Anyone game? of course the person will be compensated for the work. and i will buy the replacement caps.

I don't think it's worth all that trouble for a crap card even though you're on a budget.

The card has already been replaced by the rma card. but why throwout a good repairable card? whether on a budget or no budget?
