i made this post in the motherboard forum as well, not sure where it belongs...

Is it possible to replace the heatpipe of the a8n32-sli motherboard? i'm putting together my watercooling kit, and as you can see in my sig its in an upside case.
I've seen people replace the heatpipe on the a8n-sli premium with heatsink as well as little heatsinks right next to the cpu (not sure what that is cooling, it is where the fins were from the heatpipe)

assuming i remove the heatpipe, what do i need to cool? northbridge? southbridge? those little power things next to the cpu? i dont think i want to add any of that to my water loop cause its got enough heat sources as is...

any sugguestions would be helpful, also what type of passive cooling products would do the job..

thanks alot

You could get two of these for the dual chipsets: http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mcx159-CU.asp And you could remove the fans too for total silence.

For the mosfets (power thingy's you spoke of), you can use these: http://www.swiftnets.com/products/mc14.asp

You can either epoxy them on with some non-conductive thermal epoxy, or use the thermal tape they come with. Either way, after you remove the heatpipe from all three chips, be sure to clean the surfaces well with 91% rubbing alcohol.

im interested in the a8n32 sli as well but i have a v1000bw (inverted case) like you
i have heard mixed results about the temps of the heatpipes

can you tell me what temps your getting? idle and at load?

thanks

ill let you know as soon as i get everything working smoothly, i read in the asus forums that its only hotter by ~2C when the mobo is upside down. reguardless i'm going for high clockspeeds so i'm not takin any chances.

I just put my A8N-SLI together tonight and noticed the water block I have (Maze4) doesnt fit the heatpipe cooled chip as the via card goes right over the socket (
