hey guys i recently purchased the MSI GeForce 6800.

its got the big copper cooler with the sideways rotating fan...link...

i allready have the zalman HSF because i had it on my r9600 PRO.

but i dont know hwo the stock HSF on the MSI is attached i unscrewed all the screws but the HSF was liek " thermal glued " or sumthing.....and help is appriciated.
 
i'm gonna have to say not to install that heatsink. i have the little brother of it on mine and i just don't like it personally.

plus i just don't think it'd fit. wait until the nvidia version of the artic cooler is out.
 
i was gonna wait for the VGA silencers to come out for it but i figured that this zalman would be good for the mean time since i ahve it alying around doing nothing, although it barely fits in my case under my coolermaster hyper 6 CPU HSF thats mroe liek a sky scraper.

oh well for when the VGA silencer revisions come out for the 6800's, anyone know how to get the stock HSF off the MSI boards.?

Just requires a bit of time and effort to figure out a good configuration that uses just the available stock items.

Note that in the http://snipershide.free-universe.com/remotes/zalman_zm80d-hp/zalman_layout/ is a two arm per side configuration, and in this folder, http://snipershide.free-universe.com/remotes/zalman_zm80d-hp/zalman_layout_2/ is a four arm configuration which is what im currrently using.

I won't tell you to go ahead and do it, as it is definately not ideal, just that it can be done with good results.
